Bongu Hwaro is a charcoal-brazier barbecue house in the Star Palace building at 76 Bongeunsa-ro 18-gil, about five minutes uphill from Gangnam Station exit 11, behind CGV Gangnam. Staff set a clay pot of live charcoal at your table and you grill yourself. Posts list 150 g portions at 14,000 won for marinated beef brisket, 15,000 won for pork belly or Iberico neck, 18,000 won for beef short-rib, plus scissor-cut jar naengmyeon at 11,000 won. For its 20th anniversary the house halves the price of extra meat once the first order matches the headcount, and gives one free self-cooked ramyun per person and free soft-serve. We read 30 posts from June 8 to October 14, 2026; 25 were actual visits. Three were about other restaurants and two about Bongu Ichungjip, a separate restaurant on the second floor of the same building, so we set those aside.

What sets it apart
- Eighteen posts, from June 10 to October 10, 2026, describe the half-price deal on extra meat. One pair paid 42,000 won for four portions of brisket (two at 14,000, two extras at 7,000) and 51,000 won with a rice set and plain rice. A wedding-invitation group ate about nine portions plus a fried-rice-and-stew set, and with the invitation discount a bill of about 104,000 won came to 82,000. One writer noted the discount still applied when beef was added after a pork first order. The only word on when the promotion ends is one writer told it has no set end date.
- You grill your own meat — two posts say outright that staff don't grill. Writers add that the thin cuts cook so fast it isn't hard, though one found the meat sticking and had to watch it constantly. Bongu Ichungjip upstairs, where staff do grill, is a separate restaurant and its posts aren't counted here.
- It is quiet at off-peak times. Five posts called it quiet, and every one that gave a time was at or near lunch — 11 a.m. opening on a Wednesday, around 1:30 p.m. on a weekday. One added that even dinner wasn't too loud. One post, on a late weekday evening, found it boisterous.
- Twenty posts say the room is large. The figure of 150 seats comes up repeatedly; writers mention six more tables behind a wooden lattice and seating for groups of ten or more. A party of seven who booked found their tables slightly apart, which made whole-group conversation hard.

No one described parking at the restaurant itself. One writer parked at Kukkiwon and walked five minutes, noting there's no dedicated lot. Other parking details are copied blocks and disagree: some list the Bethel lot next door at 3,000 won for the first hour, 1,500 won per extra 30 minutes, 6,000 won max; another says 4,000 won an hour and 2,000 per 30 minutes; one says no parking.

The registered address says basement level 1, but two visitors describe it as ground floor — one ate on the first floor, another noted Bongu Hwaro downstairs and Bongu Ichungjip upstairs. Nobody wrote about going down to a basement.
No one said whether the entrance has a step or stairs, or whether they got in with a wheelchair or stroller — that means we don't know, not that there are none. Several posts mention the uphill approach, and one says the entrance is narrow and easy to miss. The post by a parent with a child doesn't mention a stroller.
Only one post, from experience, says the restroom is inside the restaurant. Separate men's and women's restrooms appear only in copied info blocks, so we didn't count them. We don't know about size or cleanliness.

What we do not know
- No one reported waiting. Two posts said they walked straight in — one a party of seven with a booking, the other on a weekday at 1:30 p.m. One, at Sunday opening, found it empty but recalled that evenings often had a line in the past. We don't know the wait at a busy dinner hour.
- Thickness is disputed: nine posts called the meat thick, four called it thin. The thin camp mostly meant the Iberico neck, which came as three thin pieces per 150 g; one writer also got it partly frozen.
- On the brisket marinade, five posts found it sweet and two said it wasn't too sweet; one said both.
- Eighteen of the 25 visit posts list opening hours, all copied from listings. The most common is 11:00–23:30, with four saying it closes at 23:00 on Sundays (one says weekends and holidays). One lists 11:30–23:00 daily and another 11:00–22:30 Thursday to Sunday. No one mentions a break time or last order. The only first-hand note is one writer arriving at the 11 a.m. opening on a Wednesday.
- Prices are from June–October 2026 posts. The half-price extra meat and free ramyun are 20th-anniversary perks, so a meal will cost more once they end. Most posts put the wedding-invitation group discount at 15%; one August post said 20%.

- Some posts look promotional: one is tagged as sponsored and one says the meal was provided.
