GARLIC BOY

갈릭보이 Gallikboi Garlic Boy is plain English — the stall sells nothing but garlic bread.

Compiled from 17 blog posts read in fullSources →

A take-away stall at unit 46 on the ground floor of Gwangjang Market that sells six kinds of garlic bread and nothing else, from 3,900 won for the plain bun to 6,800 won for spicy ham and cheese. You point at the case and it goes straight into a paper bag; most people ate while walking the market or took it home. We read 30 posts from March to October 2026; 19 were about this stall and 18 describe actually buying there. Nine posts about the separate Anguk branch on Yulgok-ro were left out.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. There is usually a line, but it moves. Ten posts queued, and the waits they gave were 5 minutes, about 10, 10 to 20, and 40. Two noted it clears fast because staff only bag what is already on display. Three weekday visitors found no line at all. One person gave up on two weekends before trying around lunchtime and finding only three people ahead.
  2. You can watch the baking. Three posts said they saw the dough being shaped and baked while they waited, one describing a glass-walled kitchen right behind the till. One visitor found the case empty and was told to wait five minutes for a fresh batch.
  3. There is nowhere to sit. Six posts call it take-away only and two say outright there is no seating; one saw foreign visitors eating on the stairs up to the Olive Young next door.
  4. Many customers are tourists: five posts mentioned lots of foreign visitors in the line, and one noted the price board is in English, Japanese and Chinese.

Getting inside

We don't know the floor. Posts describe a stall opening straight onto the market aisle, but none states the floor from experience; the '1F' is just the registered address.

Nobody wrote about steps or wheelchair or stroller access — that means it went unmentioned, not that access is fine or bad. Posts only say you queue in a crowded market aisle.

No post mentions a toilet; as a take-away stall with no seating, we don't know whether it has one.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 18 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Posts split on how heavy it is: two found it rich and greasy, one said it was not especially sweet, greasy or strong. One called it sweet, two said it wasn't. The cheese bread drew one 'greasy, salty, hot and sweet' and one 'slightly spicy'.
  • Prices were the same in every post from April to October 2026 — 3,900, 4,500, 5,100, 5,300, 6,200 and 6,800 won; one post listed the crumble at 4,900. Nobody called it expensive, one called it good value, and one paid 26,400 won for six.
  • Six posts gave the same opening hours, 10:00 to 19:30 daily, but all of them copied it from a listing, so we don't rely on it. No post mentions a closing day.
  • One post came by bus from Namdaemun Market. Several give directions from Jongno 5-ga station exits 7 and 8, but none actually says they came by subway, so we didn't count those.
  • Six posts mention company: two with family (a father and wife; children), two with a husband or partner, and two with friends, one of whom drove. One visit was with kids.
  • No post gave a phone number or said anything about booking; every account is of queuing at the display case.
