Wongiok Gwanghwamun
원기옥 광화문점 Wongiok is read by the posts as 'house of foremost vigor' (won = foremost, gi = energy, ok = house), a nod to its restorative beef hotpots.
Compiled from 25 blog posts read in fullSources →
Wongiok's Gwanghwamun branch is a Hanwoo hotpot and Korean dining room on the first basement floor of the Deoksugung D'Palace building on Saemunan-ro 2-gil. The signature is the boyang jeongol (45,000 won), sliced beef cuts simmered at the table in beef-bone broth; since a menu overhaul in June 2026 the most-ordered item is the Pujim set (110,000 won), which brings mustard salad, stuffed peppers, octopus, a hotpot, pot rice and dessert in one spread — nine posts had it. Posts before the change ate a 42,000-won-per-person hotpot set (two minimum) or a 48,000-won bulgogi set. We read 30 posts from 27 November 2025 to 16 October 2026; 3 were about other shops in the same building and were set aside, and 2 were introductions without a visit. The 25 visits are our evidence; 2 say they paid their own way and the rest say nothing about funding.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- Private rooms define the place: 20 of the 25 visits mention them, and one group ate in an eight-seat room they had booked. One party of four wrote that rooms need more than five people, and another, seated in the hall, was told rooms take a deposit of around 100,000 won and a minimum spend. Room sizes of 4 to 12 and a 20-seat group area come from the shop's own listing.
- You order on a tablet at the table: six posts say so, before and after the menu change, one noting there is a tablet at every seat.
- Seven posts found the tables comfortably spaced; one disagreed, docking a star because neighbouring tables felt close. Three posts describe the room as quiet.
- The stuffed fried peppers draw unexpected praise: eight posts call the batter crisp, and one reckons the beef filling at '95% meat'. Five posts remark on the thickness of the flame-grilled short ribs, and five say the meats had no off smell.
4 more
- Seven posts found the portions large; one trio said the Pujim set was more than enough for three big eaters, and another pair still had rice left from a single pot.
- There is a waiting area at the entrance: nine posts saw it, one also noting massage chairs and seats just outside. Seven posts booked ahead.
- Two posts actually brought their own bottle — tequila both times. Conditions such as dinner only, up to two bottles of wine and no soju or beer are copied from the shop's notice.
- Eight posts found the staff kind, citing servers who pour the broth, explain when to lower the heat and cut the octopus at the table.

Five posts drove and parked in the building's third basement level, one noting plenty of space on a weekend. The two-hour validation and the overflow lot at the Concordian Building are copied from the shop's notice.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside
| In a basement | 6 of 25 posts |
|---|---|
| Lift to the floor | 2 of 25 posts |
| Toilet inside | yes 0 · no 1 (of 25 posts read) |
The restaurant is on the first basement floor; six posts describe getting down there, and one notes there is no view as a result.
No one described a step at the door or getting in by wheelchair or stroller — that means unknown, not absent. One post's 'wheelchair-accessible entrance' is copied from the listing. Two posts took an escalator down from the ground floor and two rode the lift up from the car park; one notes stroller storage at the entrance.
Only one post mentions toilets: they are the building's shared facilities outside the restaurant. Separate men's and women's toilets appear only in copied listings, so we did not count them.
No one mentioned: Second floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 27 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- Prices changed in June 2026. Posts through May 2026 had the 42,000-won-per-person hotpot set and the 48,000-won bulgogi set; from June posts list sets at 80,000, 110,000 and 190,000 won and the hotpot alone at 45,000 won. The claim that old prices were lowered is hearsay. One post found it expensive, two found it fair, and two hesitated at the price but were satisfied; one party of four paid 120,000 won for a hotpot meal.
- Opening hours are copied identically by twenty posts: Monday to Saturday 11:30–22:00 with a 15:00–17:00 break, closed Sundays. Last order splits 11 posts at 20:45 against 4 at 21:00, with no date pattern.
- Seventeen posts give the phone number 0507-1429-0838. Booking through Naver or CatchTable is copied from the listing; seven posts say they booked ahead themselves.
- No post reports waiting. Two say they walked straight in — one on a Friday, one at opening time. Talk of lunchtime queues is hearsay we did not count.
- Two posts came by subway, one walking from Seodaemun station and one from City Hall. Walking times such as nine minutes from Gwanghwamun exit 6 are copied from listings.
- Many visit posts repeat the same search hashtags and stock lines about career chefs, no ready-made sauces and top-grade beef, which suggests commissioned copy. None discloses sponsorship, but we treat those claims as the shop's own messaging and did not count them.
