Damwon Sundae

담원순대 Sundae is Korean pork sausage; the posts give no meaning for Damwon.

Compiled from 26 blog posts read in fullSources →

Damwon Sundae is a sundae-soup house on the ground floor of a building on Sejong-daero 9-gil near Exit 9 of City Hall station, below the old Chinese restaurant Donga Banjeom. Sundae soup and pork-bone soup are 11,000 won (13,000 large), a plate of sausage 12,000, assorted boiled pork from 25,000. Most posts describe the soup arriving boiling with chili paste and perilla powder already in, and adding a spoonful of the minced garlic kept on every table. Office workers queue at lunch; evenings lean toward boiled pork, stew and soju. We read 30 posts dated 13 July to 28 October 2026, set aside 2 about other restaurants, and 27 describe an actual visit.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Expect a queue at lunch and after work. Sixteen posts waited or saw a line; the three that walked straight in went early on a weekend morning, at 1 pm on a public holiday, and on a day off. Waits that were timed: about 15 minutes with 17 parties ahead at 11:10, about 10 minutes, and under 10 minutes. One post walked in at 11 am on a weekday and found more than 20 parties waiting on the way out. Sign-up is on a Tableing machine outside the door.
  2. Of 20 posts that talked about portions, 19 called them large. One wondered if the kitchen had sent the large size by mistake, one couldn't finish the solids, another couldn't finish the bone soup. Three posts counted four pieces of sausage in the soup.
  3. Twelve posts found it far bigger inside than it looks — one counted more than 20 tables, another guessed over 100 seats, and two expected a small room from the narrow entrance. One post found it noisy and hectic with the crowd.
  4. Food comes fast — six posts said so, one timing it at under five minutes from ordering, which several posts credit for the line moving quickly.
2 more
  1. Seven posts found no porky smell. Seasoning splits: one found the broth far too salty, another found it just right, and one felt the rich broth got a little heavy. Two said the broth itself isn't spicy.
  2. Prices are the same in every post: 11,000 won for sundae soup, 13,000 for large. All four posts that weighed the price felt it fair — one said 11,000 felt cheap for the amount, another that the 10,000-won omelette stopped looking pricey once it arrived.

Getting inside

Toilet inside3 of 26 posts
Separate restrooms3 of 26 posts

It is at street level: two posts mentioned in passing that it sits on the ground floor, below Donga Banjeom upstairs.

No post describes a step at the door or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller — that means nobody wrote about it, not that it's fine. One post copies a listing line saying the entrance and seats are wheelchair-accessible, but that is the restaurant's own entry. Two posts call the entrance small.

Three posts found the toilet inside the restaurant and three noted separate men's and women's rooms. One post's copied info line says 'in the building', but its own text says inside the restaurant.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 27 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • One post came with a child, whose daughter happily ate the soup and boiled pork. Another post's info line says there are no high chairs.
  • All opening hours are copied from listings. Of 19 posts that give them, most say weekdays 09:20–22:00 with a 15:00–17:00 break, Saturdays 09:20–15:00, closed Sundays, last orders 21:20 weekdays and 14:20 Saturdays. One post gives Mon–Sat 09:00–22:00 and another Mon–Sat until 22:00; three say public holidays are off too, though one adds it was open on Hangul Day.
  • Three different phone numbers appear: 010-3252-2452 in 11 posts, 0507-1342-7210 in two, 02-778-7210 in one. That bookings go through Tableing, that remote queueing isn't accepted, and that you may wait even with a booking are all hearsay or copied notices.
  • The in-store '50-year tradition' and the TV 'Seoul top five' are the restaurant's own claims, and we don't rely on them. A regular points out the site used to change tenants often and the small print reads '50-year traditional recipe'; two posts mention other branches, including Gangnam.
  • Two posts published the same day share almost identical text, the second even keeping the first author's greeting, so we did not count the second as a visit. One post discloses a sponsored meal (extras paid on site), two say they paid themselves, and the rest don't say.
