whyden

와이덴 Waiden Whyden joins 'why' and 'den' — a den, a hideaway: the shop prints 'Den can be your secret place', and its two house beans are called Why (nutty, low acidity) and Den (brighter, more acidic).

Whyden is a small coffee bar on a side street north of Seongsu Station (Seongsuil-ro 12-gil), at street level. You choose between two house beans, the nutty 'Why' and the brighter 'Den', and it sells scones and financiers baked on site. The most-mentioned drink is the Earl Grey cream latte ('Eolkeura'): six posts mention it and five drank it. One September post lists prices: Eolkeura 5,500 won, iced latte 4,800, iced americano 4,000, mini butter scone 4,500. One post says the scones are gone by late afternoon, and a September afternoon visit found the baked goods nearly sold out. We read 30 posts dated 15 June to 4 October 2026. Fourteen record an actual visit; fifteen only link to Whyden at the end of posts about other places, and one is a copied list of cafés.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. It is a small room, but six posts describe seating: a bar at the counter, tables along the walls, a table for three or four, and wall seats suited to working alone. One post notes the tables line the walls and leave the middle of the room open. Two posts say the tables are small; one says that makes it a poor place to work on a laptop.
  2. Four posts mention outdoor seats among the plants by the door. An August post advised sitting inside in the heat; a late-September post thought outside would be better in autumn.
  3. Three posts are by repeat customers. One went almost every morning for two months, rotating latte, americano, Eolkeura and scones; one was on a second visit; one says they go often. Two posts say the owner is friendly.
  4. Posts differ slightly on noise. Two call the room calm. The two-month regular says it is 'not exactly quiet' but cosy enough to read for an hour each morning, and saw it empty only once, even early, because of nearby office workers and locals.

These are raw counts, not percentages. Someone who did not mention something is not someone who disagreed.

The most ordered dish is Eolkeura (얼크라(얼그레이 크림 라떼)) — 5 of 10 posts.

The prices here are what bloggers wrote down in their posts, and they may have changed since. Check Naver Place for the current menu and prices. This list is not a menu board — it counts what bloggers actually ordered and ate. Check on Naver Place

Where it is

Map showing where whyden is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside

No post describes the floor from experience; only the address says ground floor. That means nobody wrote about it, not that there is nothing to say.

No post says whether there is a step at the entrance or whether a wheelchair or pushchair gets in. One mentions only that the door slides sideways.

No post mentions the toilet, so we do not know where it is or whether it is separated by gender.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 11 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • All opening hours in these posts are copied listings. Seven posts agree on weekdays 07:30–18:00 and closed Sundays. Only Saturday opening differs: posts from 25 July and 11 August say 11:00, three posts from 16 August on say 10:00. We cannot tell whether the hours changed or the sources differed.
  • Pets: one post guessed dogs might be welcome, while a listing copied in another post says no pets.
  • Company is scattered: two posts alone, two with a partner, one with a friend, one with a sister. The two partner posts are the same person writing up the same visit twice.
  • No post describes the walk from the station; '3 minutes from Seongsu Station' and '390 m from exit 1' are copied lines.
  • No post mentions queuing. One says it is always busy even at weekday lunchtime. That means nobody reported a wait, not that there is none.
  • Item prices come from a single September post, plus 5,500 won for the orange latte in one August post. The 500-won takeaway discount is copied from the shop's sandwich board by two posts.
  • No post gives a phone number. One copied listing mentions Naver pickup orders and reservations; nobody reported using either.
