Taeyanggak

태양각 Taeyang means the sun and -gak a pavilion, a common ending for old Korean-Chinese restaurant names; the same room also trades as Baegane Sundaeguk, the Bae family's blood-sausage soup.

Taeyanggak is an old Korean-Chinese restaurant up a flight of stairs on the second floor of a building on Achasan-ro 7-gil, the Seongsu Jokbal alley near exit 1 of Seongsu Station. In the same room it also trades as Baegane Sundaeguk, serving Korean dishes such as blood-sausage soup, pork hotpot and kimchi stew. Posts give jjajangmyeon at 6,000 won, jjamppong and fried rice at 7,000, sundaeguk at 10,000 and sweet-and-sour pork at 25,000. Two posts say the owners made off-menu dishes like fried dumplings, japchae rice or a smaller sweet-and-sour pork when asked. We read 18 posts from October 2024 to September 2026; 14 of them describe an actual visit.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Every comment on price points the same way: seven posts call it cheap and none call it expensive. One couple paid 13,000 won for a jjajangmyeon and a jjamppong together; another thought the 35,000 won yangjangpi would cost 40,000 to 50,000 elsewhere.
  2. Six posts say the portions are large; one says they were the same as any Chinese restaurant. Sweet-and-sour pork comes in a single 25,000 won size, but in April 2026 a pair who asked for less were offered a 15,000 won plate. Both posts about this come from that one visit, written by the two people who went.
  3. No post reports waiting. Three say they walked straight in: on a Tuesday at 12:30, around 2 pm on a weekend, and early one evening as the first customers. The early-evening post adds that, with few tables, a peak-hour wait seems likely.
  4. Six posts mention heat: four about the jjamppong or its broth, one about the yangjangpi once the whole pot of mustard went in, and one that just says the food was fiery.

Only one post covers parking: the restaurant has no lot of its own. Its notes on nearby public lots read like copied information, so we have not relied on them.

Getting inside

Second floor8 of 14 posts
Toilet inside1 of 14 posts

Eight posts describe climbing stairs to the second floor. Two call the stairs steep, and one warns to take care coming down, since a slip after a few drinks could mean a bad fall.

Nobody mentions a step at the door, a lift, or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller. That is not the same as there being none; it is just unrecorded. The only way in anyone describes is the stairs to the second floor.

Only one post mentions the toilet: it is inside, at the back, and you take your shoes off to go in. That writer did not use it. Nobody says whether it is split by gender.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 17 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • One post disagrees sharply. In August 2025 a diner left half the sweet-and-sour pork over a porky smell, found a fruit fly in one of the table vinegar bottles, and said they would never go back. No other post raises this.
  • Three posts describe the walk from Seongsu Station exit 1 themselves, past an Olive Young and then right. Figures like a four- or five-minute walk come from copied info blocks.
  • Seven posts list the same opening hours, 11:00 to 22:00 daily, but every one comes from copied information or hearsay. Two say there is no closing day. No one describes a late-evening visit, so we can't confirm when it really closes.
  • Five posts give the phone number as 02-467-0231; one from March 2025 gives 02-464-7826. Booking is mentioned only in copied info blocks; nobody we read made a reservation.
  • Three posts went as a couple and two with friends or acquaintances. None went with family or children; one only noticed another table with a toddler.
  • Three posts mention celebrity photos and TV-appearance frames on the walls. The restaurant put those up, so we have not counted them. Claims like handmade dumplings or a 30-year history are hearsay too.
  • The place goes by two names: the sign reads Taeyanggak, and Naver lists it as Taeyanggak x Baegane Sundaeguk. Two posts say the business is now Baegane Sundaeguk and kept the old Taeyanggak sign; another heard from the owner that they ran a Chinese kitchen for years and later added sundaeguk. We can't tell whether ownership changed. Separately, two May 2026 posts repeat the same five hashtags under every photo and may be one commissioned batch, though neither discloses sponsorship.
