MAHACHAI

마하차이 Mahachai Mahachai is a Thai name — maha means great and chai means victory; none of the posts say why the house chose it.

Compiled from 23 blog posts read in fullSources →

A Thai restaurant on the second floor of 399 Ttukseom-ro, above a Mega Coffee, a walk from Seongsu Station exit 3 toward Ttukdo Market. Most plates are in the low 10,000s of won — beef noodle soup 11,000, pad thai 12,000, a one-person crab curry rice bowl 15,000, tom yum with noodles 12,000 — ordered by QR code at the table, with shrimp chips and pickled radish brought first. We read 30 posts dated March 31 to September 28, 2026; 27 describe actually eating there. None report a change in prices, menu or seating over that span.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Free shrimp chips and pink pickled radish arrive as soon as you sit down. Ten posts mention them; one says the chips are refilled, and a regular lunch-goer says the chips are her favourite part.
  2. You order through a QR code on the table. Ten posts say so; one adds that a paper menu was also handed over, and another thought payment was taken up front.
  3. There is a hand-washing sink inside the dining room; five posts mention it, one also noting a phone charger. The toilet is outside: two posts say you leave the restaurant for the stairwell, one adding you take a key.
  4. Seven posts say portions are large: one omelette pad thai left a diner stuffed, a light eater left half the nasi goreng, and two people ordering three dishes found it far too much. Another says one 2,000-won bowl of rice was plenty for two.
3 more
  1. Four posts say food comes out quickly, one timing the beef noodle soup at under five minutes. One post qualifies this: noodle dishes are fast, rice dishes slower.
  2. Six posts call the owners friendly. One says the place is run by a couple; another says staff explained how to mix the pad thai with sprouts and the owner brought a free cola.
  3. Large windows let window-side tables look down on the street; four posts mention the windows, window seats or sunlight.

Getting inside

Second floor11 of 23 posts
Toilet insideyes 0 · no 2 (of 23 posts read)

Four posts say you climb stairs to the second floor. No one mentions an elevator, a step at the door, or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller — we don't know, which is not the same as there being none. One post found the stairway up not very clean.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 26 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Accounts of the size differ: one post calls it fairly roomy, three call it small or compact (about ten tables). Another counts around six tables.
  • Only two posts talk about waiting, and they differ: a nearby office worker says you must arrive right at noon to avoid a wait, while another walked in at 1 p.m. without one. A Sunday 7:30 p.m. visit found the room about half full.
  • The walk from Seongsu Station exit 3 is put at about 7 minutes in one post and around or over 10 minutes in two. One post says the Ttukdo Market bus stop is right outside.
  • Opening hours appear in eighteen posts, all copied from listings. Nine say weekdays 11:00-21:00 and weekends 11:30-21:00; six say 11:00-21:00 daily; single posts give Sunday 10:00-19:30 or 11:30-21:30 daily. Eleven list last orders at 20:20, five say there is no afternoon break, and two say it closes on major holidays.
  • Prices are the same across posts from April to September 2026. Until 2 p.m. on weekdays a few dishes (beef noodle soup, pad thai, shrimp fried rice) are 1,000 won cheaper, and one post paid the 11,000-won lunch price for pad thai. Only one post itemises a full meal for two — papaya salad, tom yum with noodles, crab curry, rice and a Chang beer, 57,000 won in all. Two posts say it is good value.
  • Eight posts give the phone number as 0507-1317-5678; one list post that never visited gives 02-468-5678. Several mention booking through Naver, but no one says they actually reserved.
  • Seven posts from March to September 2026 repeat the same search phrases (Seongsu Station pho, solo dining, Thai restaurant) and recommend it for eating alone though they went with others; one refers to 'a good opportunity' and 'optional keywords', which reads like a commissioned post. None disclose sponsorship; five say they paid themselves. One review cross-posted by the same author on two blogs was counted once.
