KHAO
카오 Kao Khao (ข้าว) is the Thai word for rice; one visitor looked it up, and another noted the long-grain Thai rice served here.

Khao is a Thai restaurant on the second floor of a building in an alley off Yeonmujang-gil in Seongsu. You order from a QR code at the table; the dishes people ordered most are tom yum noodle soup, pad thai and phat horapha mu sap (basil pork on rice). In posts from 20 September 2026 on, pad thai is 15,000 won and the other two 14,000 won, so two people eating one dish each spend around 30,000 won. We read 30 posts from March to October 2026; 7 were about other places, mostly Thailand travel diaries, and we set them aside. All of the remaining 23 describe an actual visit.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.
What sets it apart
- You order by scanning the table's QR code with your phone; 16 posts did. One says you pay on the way out. On a printed menu the posts split: one says there isn't one, another (from March) says a paper menu was available.
- Seven posts walked from Seongsu Station exit 4, taking anywhere from under 5 to about 10 minutes: past Olive Young, right at the Mega Coffee intersection, then into the alley.
- Many went with a reservation: 7 posts say you can book, mostly through Naver. Three describe a toy elephant or hand-drawn note with their name waiting at the table. One says pairs get window seats and groups of three or more a large table.
- No one reported waiting themselves. One post walked straight in at weekday lunch and then saw a line form outside; two others are unclear — one got the last table at 12:30 on a Sunday, another saw a crowd that turned out to be a TV shoot. One post mentions waiting chairs outside, and one says there is no remote waitlist, so you wait at the door.
9 more
- Opinions on speed differ: one post waited 20 to 25 minutes for food at Sunday lunch, while two found it quick — one of them was the only table in the room.
- Twelve posts call the food spicy — the basil pork 'spicier than expected', pad kee mao a hot noodle dish. Three found things salty (the green curry, the cashew chicken on its own), and one found the tom yum salty on a first visit but well judged on the second.
- Five posts mention big windows and good light. On size they split: three call it roomy, two small, one neither. Posts describe bar seats, tables for two, four and six, and a large central table.
- Six posts mention the open kitchen; one says the bar seats look straight onto it. The room is described as magenta-pink light, bare concrete and metal tables.
- Nine posts call the staff kind. One says that when a partner mentioned a shrimp allergy, they offered to make his pad thai with chicken; others mention cold water brought unasked and coriander served on the side.
- Four posts got a free soft drink for leaving a receipt review.
- Four posts had beer with the meal and two tried a Thai Regency whisky highball. One repeats a wine corkage fee of 20,000 won a bottle.
- Five posts went with friends, five as a couple, three in groups of three or more. None went alone, though several thought the bar and window seats would suit solo diners.
- Four posts were repeat visits, one by someone who had been five or six times.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

The restaurant is up a flight of stairs on the second floor; 14 posts describe going up. Several warn the stairs are steep, especially coming down. A pink neon sign and a standing board mark the entrance.
No one wrote about wheelchair or stroller access, or about a lift — only about climbing the stairs. That means nobody mentioned it, not that there is none.
Two posts say the toilet is inside the restaurant, next to the kitchen. One notes it is unisex but clean.
No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know
- All opening hours are copied from the listing. Posts from June 2026 on mostly agree: Monday to Saturday 11:30-21:00 with a 15:00-17:30 break, Sunday 12:00-21:00 with a 15:00-18:00 break, last orders 14:30 and 20:30. Posts up to May had Sunday closing at 15:30, and up to April the break ran only to 17:00. A single post lists Mondays as closed, unlike the rest.
- Prices went up in September 2026. Through late August, pad thai was 14,500 won and the basil pork and tom yum noodles 13,500; from 20 September they are 15,000, 14,000 and 14,000. The cashew chicken went from 21,500 to 22,000. A new dish, mu thot sam rot (25,000 won), appeared in September.
- Several posts give the same phone number, 0507-1431-3700. Most bookings were made through Naver; posts disagree on whether CatchTable works.
- Some posts share promotional wording: two use the same directions and the same lines about magenta lighting and two-, four- and six-seat tables, and two posted a day apart repeat the same chef introduction and the same order. One post discloses sponsorship. Claims about Le Cordon Bleu or Michelin Bib Gourmand chefs come from the restaurant's own introduction, and we did not rely on them.
