Chinese

Haomara

하오마라 Hao is the Chinese word for 'good' and mala is the numbing-hot Sichuan seasoning, so the name reads roughly as 'good mala'.

Compiled from 17 blog posts read in fullSources →

Haomara is a mala soup and mala stir-fry shop on the second floor (unit 210) of the SK V1 Tower on Yeonmujang 5ga-gil, close to exit 3 of Seongsu Station. You fill a basket with ingredients and pay by weight; four posts give 2,000 won per 100g for the soup. Six posts add guobaorou (15,000 won), and many are weekday lunches by Seongsu office workers. It is a nationwide chain, so posts about the Dasan, Seolleung and Ori branches were set aside. We read 25 posts from December 2024 to September 2026; 20 are about this shop and 19 describe eating here.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. No post reports waiting. Four say there was no queue: one went at 1 p.m. on a weekday, another phoned ahead on a busy weekend when other Seongsu restaurants had hour-long waits and walked straight in. Two less definite posts say it is quiet if you arrive at 11:30 and that late arrivals may not get a seat right away.
  2. Most posts find it milder than the labels suggest. There are four heat levels, 0 to 3, with level 1 billed as Shin Ramyun hot. Eight posts call it milder than expected, three call it spicy, and one is undecided. One writer ordered the hottest level and found it less fiery than expected; another had level 3 and felt they could have gone higher.
  3. Four posts say the portions are large, one describing a bowl about to overflow and another leaving some behind. One post felt the guobaorou had shrunk compared with earlier visits.
  4. Two posts call it pricey, one calls it good value, and one is undecided. Only pickled radish and seasonings are free at the self-serve bar; peanut sauce (two posts), rice and coriander are 1,000 won each and extra meat is 3,000 won. Three posts say paying in cash or by bank transfer gets you a free soft drink.

Getting inside

Second floor10 of 17 posts
In a basementyes 0 · no 10 (of 17 posts read)
Lift to the floor2 of 17 posts

It is on the building's second floor: ten posts describe going up, and none mention a basement. Two say they entered the SK V1 Tower (the one with a Twosome Place) and took the lift. Three posts name the south entrance and one the north.

No one mentions a step at the door or getting in with a wheelchair or pushchair; two posts only note taking the lift. That means we don't know, not that there is no access.

No post says whether the toilet is inside the shop or separated by gender.

No one mentioned: Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 18 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • The stir-fry price per 100g differs: 2,200 won in an April 2025 post and 3,200 won in a January 2026 post. Two posts are not enough to tell a price rise from a typo.
  • Ten posts give opening hours, all but one copied from the listing. They agree on 11:00 to 22:00 with Sundays closed (eight posts mention the Sunday closure). Three say Saturday closes at 21:30; the rest just say 11:00 to 22:00 daily. Three give a 21:30 last order.
  • Five posts copy the phone number 0507-1354-0199. No one reports making a reservation; one called ahead to ask about the queue.
