Haemjjiwa Bejji

햄찌와베찌 Haemjji and Bejji are shorthand for the house's two stews — haem-jjigae (ham stew) and beikeon-jjigae (bacon stew).

A budae-jjigae (army stew) shop at Achasan-ro 11-gil 26, ground floor, a 5–8 minute walk from Seongsu Station exit 2. The menu centres on bacon stew topped with bacon the house smokes itself (11,000 won per person) and ham stew (10,000 won); rice comes in a big shared bowl, and any instant-noodle add-in is 1,000 won. Posts from May 2026 on give weekday-only hours, 11:00–21:00 with a 16:00–17:00 break; earlier posts had weekdays until 22:00 and Saturdays until 15:00. The registered name, 'Express', is the shop's online meal-kit store. We read 28 posts from May 2025 to September 2026; 8 were about the Wangsimni branch, the second Seongsu branch or the cocktail bar upstairs and were set aside, leaving 17 actual visits.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. Ten of the 17 visits say the portions are large. Rice comes heaped in a big bowl — 'a lot even for a grown man', one wrote — and a group of four who ordered three servings asked the owner whether it was really four. Others ordered three servings for three, and three for two.
  2. Six posts say rice, side dishes and broth are refillable: the fish-cake stir-fry, kimchi and stock are at a self-serve bar, and more rice is yours for the asking.
  3. Expect to wait at weekday lunch. Six posts waited or saw a line: one found a long queue at 1 p.m. and came back around 2, another recalls a wait even well past 1, a third saw a line form as they left. Three are inconclusive — one arrived at 11:30 to find every table but one taken, one walked straight in, and one says at peak times you can leave your number and wait in the café next door.
  4. Nine posts are return visits — 'a regular for years', 'I drop by often', a second trip — and a few also order the meal kit to cook at home.
2 more
  1. Five posts call it cheap and none call it expensive — 'very cheap for Seoul', and 'nowhere else in Seongsu at this price'.
  2. Eight posts walked from Seongsu Station exit 2, putting it at 5 to 8 minutes, or 400–480 m; two say it's easy to find on the same lane as Kokkiri Bagel.

From the station

Eight posts walked from Seongsu Station exit 2, putting it at 5 to 8 minutes, or 400–480 m; two say it's easy to find on the same lane as Kokkiri Bagel.

Getting inside

Toilet insideyes 0 · no 1 (of 17 posts read)
Separate restroomsyes 0 · no 1 (of 17 posts read)

No post describes the floor from experience; the address says ground floor, but nobody mentions stairs either way.

Nobody mentions a step at the door or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller. One post only notes a small entrance opening onto a roomier interior — that means unknown, not step-free.

Only one post mentions the toilet: it's the building's shared unisex toilet, not one inside the shop.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 20 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Opening hours have changed. Nine posts up to April 2026 give weekdays 11:00–22:00, Saturdays 11:00–15:00, closed Sundays, no break. From May 2026 posts give 11:00–21:00 with a 16:00–17:00 break; two posts in May and early June still say closed Sundays only, while four from mid-June on say closed Saturday and Sunday. All of this is copied into info boxes, so check before going.
  • A free egg per person at dinner, fried yourself at the self-serve bar, appears in four posts from December 2025 to June 2026. One July 2026 post says the eggs are gone because of rising prices — only one post, so we can't confirm it's still the case.
  • Spice level is mixed: two posts say the budae stew isn't spicy, one is inconclusive, and the one post that had the kimchi stew called it sharp and fiery.
  • Two phone numbers circulate: 02-498-8210 (four posts) and 0507-1395-8210 (four). One post says it booked ahead yet still describes queueing, so whether reservations are taken is unclear.
  • Prices are clear only for the two stews and add-ins; nobody gives a price for the pork kimchi stew that first shows up in 2026, or for drinks.
  • Other branches share the name nearby. Posts about the Wangsimni Station branch (Muhak-ro 2-gil 34) and the second Seongsu branch (Songjeong-dong) are left out of these counts — the Wangsimni branch even keeps different hours, opening at 10 with no break.
