Korean

Bokdak

복닭 Bok means good fortune and is also the bok of boknal, the hottest summer days when Koreans eat chicken; dak means chicken.

Compiled from 21 blog posts read in fullSources →

Bokdak is a chicken restaurant in the Housed Sejong Tower arcade between Seongsu and Ttukseom stations. Boneless dakdoritang, braised-chicken rice bowls, half-chicken soup and, in summer, icy chogye noodles all come as single portions, and many writers are Seongsu office workers eating lunch alone. Posts up to autumn 2025 list the chicken stew and chogye noodles at 9,000 won and the half-chicken soup at 11,000; from December 2025 the stew and noodles are 9,500. We read 30 posts from October 2024 to October 2026; 6 turned out to be about other places, and 21 describe actually eating here.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. There is a row of solo counter seats at the back. Eleven posts describe the seating, and the common thread is that back counter — one counts four or five seats, another six. The front has two- and four-person tables, which five posts mention alongside the counter. Four writers went alone. One found a shelf at the counter handy for propping up a phone; another wished there were a phone stand.
  2. Expect a queue at lunch. Six posts mention waiting, and one writer who arrived before the lunch rush walked straight in. Nobody gives a wait time in minutes. One says that at noon you wait standing and that customers were already there before 11:30; another turned back one day and came again the next; another got in on the third try. One post calls the waiting seats very few.
  3. Side dishes are refilled from a self-serve bar; fourteen posts say so. Kimchi, pickled radish and fishcake stir-fry come to the table first, and you help yourself after that. The fishcake gets repeated praise; one writer found it had run out and been replaced.
  4. Eleven posts say it is inexpensive and none says it is pricey, usually set against how hard it is to eat under 10,000 won in Seongsu. A June 2025 order: chogye noodles 9,000 won, boneless chicken stew 9,000, half-chicken soup 11,000, with 1,000 won extra for a large portion.
2 more
  1. Nine posts say the portions are large — one couple thought a third dish had been added by mistake, another found the noodle portion enormous. Two more only say it was filling, which we did not count either way.
  2. Two posts note that cold grain tea is served instead of plain water.

Getting inside

In a basementyes 0 · no 1 (of 21 posts read)

Only one writer describes the floor from experience: it is on the ground floor of the arcade building.

No writer describes the entrance step or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller. One post copies a listing that says wheelchair accessible; we don't count that. This means unknown, not absent.

No one describes the toilet from experience. Two copied listings say separate men's and women's toilets, one of them outside the shop.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 24 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Heat is disputed: two posts call it spicy, three say it isn't — milder than Shin Ramyun, and even the red chogye is only slightly tangy.
  • Three posts mention sweetness: two of the braised-chicken bowl, and one notes the chogye broth was too sweet for a companion who dislikes sweet savoury food.
  • The restaurant has not moved, but the menu has shrunk: a February 2025 post lists meals, sides and fried chicken, while a December 2025 post says the old chicken-and-tteokbokki sets and pot dishes are gone and only single bowls remain.
  • Chogye noodles are summer-only: one post saw them return in April 2026, another heard they end around Chuseok, and a March post found only hot dishes. On boknal one evening the rice had run out and only noodles were left, and another writer says it always closes early on boknal.
  • Eleven visit posts give the same hours: weekdays 11:00–20:00 with a 15:00–17:00 break and last order at 19:55, Saturdays 11:00–15:00, closed Sundays. Three of these simply copy the listing.
  • No one describes the walk from the station; posts only copy distances such as four minutes from Seongsu Station exit 1.
  • Three posts copy the phone number 0507-1464-0157. Nobody describes making a reservation; booking appears only in copied listings.
  • Two posts from the same Tistory blog follow an identical numbered template and contradict other posts on several points (exit 3, a fried-chicken menu, an open kitchen, no bookings), so we did not count them as visits.
