또보겠지떡볶이집 성수말랑쉼표점 Ttobogetji means see you again, tteokbokki-jip is a tteokbokki shop, and this branch calls itself Seongsu Mallang-swimpyo — mallang is soft or springy and swimpyo is a comma, so the branch name reads as a soft pause. The registered name drops the brand, which is why nobody writes it that way. Worth knowing: another branch of the same chain sits nearby at Seongsu-il-ro 6-gil 33, and one blogger's review of that one was written up under this shop's name.

Ttobogetji Mallangshimpyo is a table-cooked tteokbokki shop one floor up at 19-1 Wangsimni-ro 4-gil, three to five minutes from exit 7 of Ttukseom station — the Seongsu branch of a Hongdae original, open since July 2023. The pot is cooked at your table and starts at two portions: ₩15,000, or ₩21,000 with brisket and bean sprouts. Two things come with it almost every time: butter-garlic chips (₩6,500) and fried rice at the end. Writers agree the rice cakes are soft and the broth unaggressive. The room is dressed in retro bits and pieces, and the window seats are bright. 11:30 to 21:30, last orders 20:30, no afternoon break. The closing day has changed twice in three years — see below. What sets it apart
- Whether you queue depends on the hour, and the accounts line up. Four report a wait and five report none. Waited: just after the lunch rush there was a queue, though it moved fast; thirty minutes, which one writer decided was not worth it; lunchtime is busy enough that you should arrive early or put your name down; and one regular finds it harder than it used to be. Did not wait: straight in at a weekend; lucky, no queue; in just after lunch; three in the afternoon on a weekend with nobody waiting; between three and four on a Saturday, straight in. Mid-afternoon looks like the answer — though both writers who tried it add that the room was nearly full anyway. There is somewhere to wait, and it changes with the season: hot water in winter for people standing on the stairs, and in summer air conditioning and cold barley tea on the half landing. - It is one floor up — twenty-six posts say so. You take the stairs, and one writer notes a half landing on the way (that is where you wait). One finds the sign hard to spot — small, though visible if you look; another calls the pastel frontage neat, so it is small rather than hidden. Inside it is done up in retro bits: fifteen posts use words like homely, atmospheric, retro objects, tidy — a Tom and Jerry picture, a printed line and a trinket on each table, a full-length mirror, the window seats. Two mention how bright the window is. Several say it photographs well, so some people come for the room as much as the food. No post in twenty-eight mentions a lift — one floor up, and only stairs.
- Two people cannot finish it. Nine posts call the portions large and two never got as far as the fried rice — one calls that a reason to return. And yet three advise topping up with noodles rather than ordering the next size: for three people, the two-person pot plus noodles beats the three-person pot. So the regulars' arithmetic is: two people, the two-person pot and one added noodle; three, the same with more. Chips and fried rice on top of that is too much for two — twelve ate the chips and thirteen the rice, and few claim to have cleared both. There is no parking. Four posts say so and none disagrees. Two offer alternatives, and they differ: one recommends the Seongsu library car park, the other the culture centre's, with rates — free for the first half hour, then ₩1,000. Still, nobody reports actually parking; all four are copied information lines. Walking directions are consistent: seven posts put it 96 metres, three minutes or about five from exit 7 of Ttukseom, or about seven minutes from Seoul Forest. With stairs to climb and a queue to join, leave the car.

It is one floor up by stairs, and that is the main condition of eating here. Twenty-six posts place it upstairs and not one mentions a lift. How many steps, whether there is a handrail, how wide they are — nobody says, though the mention of a half landing tells us the flight turns. Whether a wheelchair or a pushchair could manage it, we do not know — not a no, simply unwritten. Three posts came with children and none mentions a high chair. Remember too that the lavatory is outside the shop and locked. If it matters, ring 0507-1455-8954 first.

What we do not know
- Every branch of this chain has its own name. Ours is Mallangshimpyo; the Hongdae one is Kkantappia, the Magok one Sutsokdonghwa. The customers find it funny — one calls the name ridiculous, another says the branch name makes no sense, and one built her post's title out of it (soft rice cakes and a comma-shaped pause). So the word that identifies us is not the chain name but the branch name. Of thirty collected posts, one turned out to be the Magok branch, and another carried our branch name in its title but a different street address and a different menu, so we removed it. The remaining twenty-eight show no batch and no sponsorship: spread evenly across thirty-eight months, no shared sentences, no declarations. Six say they have come back — regularly, often — and two are collecting stamps on a card toward free chips. These are partly the words of regulars, which makes them worth more than usual.
- The lavatory is outside the shop, and you need a key from inside. One writer puts it exactly: spotlessly kept, right outside the door, but the key is held in the restaurant. It is on the stair landing, in other words, and locked. Hers is the only account of it; the other twenty-seven posts do not mention it at all. Whether it is split by gender, how many cubicles, where the key is kept — nobody says. For a meal you sit over while it simmers, this is worth knowing.
- One writer came alone — plenty of couples around her, she notes, and then herself — and goes on to praise how fast the food arrives once you sit. In a shop that sells from two portions up, hers is the only such record, and she does not say what she ordered or paid. The other twenty-seven came with someone: twelve with friends, seven with family, five with a partner, two with colleagues. One post recommends it for solo diners — written by someone who came with a friend. Since the smallest pot is ₩15,000 for two, ring 0507-1455-8954 and ask before going alone.
