Seokgye Changsindong Maeun Jokbal 1-hojeom

석계 창신동매운족발 1호점 Changsin-dong is a neighbourhood in Jongno and maeun jokbal means spicy pigs' trotters; this is the Seokgye shop of that name, not the one in Changsin-dong itself.

Compiled from 20 blog posts read in fullSources →

A spicy pigs'-trotter (jokbal) shop on the restaurant street by Seokgye Station, at Hancheon-ro 78-gil 57, with an annexe directly across the road; three posts were sent over to the annexe when the main room was full. The most-ordered dishes are the whole spicy front trotter at 40,000 won (nine posts) and the boneless spicy version at 35,000 won (six), often split half-and-half with the plain trotters. Alongside come steamed egg at 5,000 won (ten posts) and a 4,000-won rice ball you shape yourself, wearing plastic gloves, from rice heaped with seaweed flakes (seven). We read 30 posts dated 19 May to 18 October 2026; 22 describe actually eating here. Five were about a different shop of the same name on Jongno 51-gil and were set aside.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. How hot it is depends on who you ask: nine posts call it spicy, four found it milder than expected without settling the question, and one said it was not spicy. Two posts were told the default heat was about Buldak level, and both found it was not. You can choose the heat; one diner who ordered the milder level found it far too mild and only got the taste she remembered from the regular level she took home. Another put the medium level between Shin Ramyun and Buldak.
  2. Takeaway is a big part of the trade: six posts used it. One phoned ahead and was told to collect in 30 minutes; another notes takeaway comes with lettuce, garlic and sauces but no bean-sprout soup. Leftovers can be boxed up too.
  3. Seating is round steel street-stall tables with red stools. Four posts say there are plenty of seats, and one says the room runs back in an L shape, though one found the tables themselves a bit cramped. Two posts call the room spacious and two call it clean.
  4. Seven posts went with friends, the most common pattern. Two went as a family with children (one says the plain trotters were sliced thin enough for kids), two as a couple, and one as a party of four.

Parking

1 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

Posts saying you cannot1 of 20 posts

On parking, one post that went says to use a nearby car park, meaning the shop has none; one that drove had to circle the block, and another thought parking looked difficult, but neither settled it. The 'no parking' line in several info boxes is copied listing data and was not counted.

Getting inside

Toilet inside1 of 20 posts

No post describes which floor it is on from experience; the '1st floor' in the address is copied listing data.

Nobody wrote about a step at the door or getting in with a wheelchair or pushchair. That means no one mentioned it, not that there is no barrier.

One post says the toilet is inside at the back and does not recommend using it; another found it smelled so bad they used the toilet in the next building. Nobody said whether it is separated by gender.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 23 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Waits vary. One post saw even the waiting seats full on a weekend evening; two walked straight in, at 8:30pm on a weekend and 7pm on a Wednesday. No post gives a wait time. Three were sent across to the annexe when the main room was full.
  • Several posts place it on the restaurant street off exit 5 or 7 of Seokgye Station, but only one says they came by subway; one more walked.
  • Eleven posts give opening hours: nine say 2pm to 11:30pm with last orders at 11pm, two say 2pm to 11pm. Most are copied from listings. One says it never closes. One diner asked at 7pm and was told '10:45', without saying what ends then.
  • Prices did not change between a June 2025 visit and posts from September 2026: 40,000 won for a whole front trotter, 35,000 boneless, 4,000 for the rice ball and 5,000 for steamed egg. Three people paid 49,000 won for a trotter, a rice ball and an egg. Four posts found it cheaper than other jokbal places, and one paid with Onnuri gift vouchers. A delivery post listed different prices that match no other post, so we did not use them.
  • Five posts give the phone number as 0507-1401-9923 and one as 02-966-9923. A similarly named shop sits nearby at Hancheon-ro 78-gil 52; one post saw a notice saying this shop is not the yellow-signed one, and another post gave that shop's number. So check you have the '1-hojeom' (No. 1) when booking or ordering takeaway. The claim that takeaway and group bookings are taken by phone is copied listing text.
  • The sign seems to have changed. Posts from June to September 2026 describe a white sign; a post on 9 October says the sign is new. The same writer, comparing with her visit three months earlier, found less smokiness and heat and mostly scrap meat, and was disappointed for the first time. She did not know whether the owner had changed, and neither do we. Only that post and one from 18 October describe the food since the change.
  • One post heard the shop had moved to a bigger site because business was good, but that is hearsay and we did not count it. No post says when or from where.
