Yeonnam Jokbal 1987 Hongdae-jeom

Yeonnam Jokbal 1987's Hongdae branch is a ground-floor trotters house on Wausan-ro 29-gil whose calling card is jokbal fried a second time. We read 24 posts from 6 May to 23 October 2026; five were about other places and were set aside, leaving 18 visits. The most-ordered dish, eaten in 11 posts, is the 'Twigim Banban Hansang B' — half fried trotters, half spicy trotters — which six posts priced at 65,000 won. It arrives on one tray with eight side dishes, five sauces, bean-sprout soup and wraps; many diners added fermented oysters with white kimchi (15,000 won, 10 posts) and a fruit makgeolli (16,000 won, 7 posts). It is a different shop from the Yeonnam branch up in Yeonnam-dong.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Eleven posts said the coating was crisp, many comparing it to fried chicken. Three said it turned greasy partway through ('about halfway… the greasiness crept up'), while one said it wasn't oily at all. Several leaned on the pickles, oysters or noodles to cut it.
  2. Seven posts said portions were large. One trio ordered one set and still left food; one couple took the rest home. Several reckoned a single set feeds three or four.
  3. Nine posts mentioned the review offer: a Naver receipt review earns bibim makguksu, a Google review earns a drink. Five posts received the noodles; one noted you pay first to get the receipt.
  4. Five posts noticed many foreign diners — one counted three foreign groups at the next table alone — and several put it down to the Korean-style interior.

  1. Four posts said you order from a tablet at each table; several noted the menu is also posted outside the entrance.

Getting inside

Toilet inside2 of 17 posts
Separate restrooms2 of 17 posts

No post described floors or stairs from experience. The '1st floor' in the address is the registered value, not something anyone reported.

Nobody wrote about a step at the entrance or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller. Posts mention the doors being open wide, but we don't know about step-free access.

Two posts said the restroom is inside the shop and split by gender; one added it was clean and odour-free.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 18 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Opinions on space split five to two: five called it roomy, two said it isn't large but fits many tables. Noise split one to one — one post said conversation kept breaking off, another said it was quiet enough to talk.
  • Whether the spicy trotters are hot is split: three posts said yes, one said no, three called it moderate. One diner asked for it milder and the kitchen obliged.
  • Two posts reported a queue: one got a table at 8pm on a Sunday but saw a line form and last until 9:40; another saw one form around 2pm on a holiday. Two more found it full on weekday evenings without saying they waited.
  • Thirteen posts list hours of noon to midnight daily, ten with last orders at 11pm, but most copied them from the listing. Closing days conflict — one post says the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month, another says no fixed closure — so check before going.
  • A set runs 49,000 to 65,000 won. Only one post gave a full bill: 75,500 won for two, with a half-and-half set, a rice ball and two beers (June 2026). One post listed the fried half-and-half set at 58,000 won, out of line with the others. One post called it pricey; two called it good value.
  • Seven posts gave the phone number 0507-1384-1988. One post said Naver booking works and comes with a free rice ball; group bookings are mentioned only in copied listing text.
  • Ten posts between 6 May and 17 June 2026 ordered the identical spread, and four went up on 13 June alone. Only one disclosed sponsorship; the rest say nothing. Five posts said they paid their own way.
