Wanwansyang is a Chongqing noodle shop in an alley off Eoulmadang-ro in Seogyo-dong, about five minutes' walk from Exit 8 of Hongik Univ. Station. The address says ground floor, but you climb a staircase on the left of the building and order at a kiosk by the door. People come for Chongqing suanlafen, sour and numbing glass noodles (9,900 won), and beef noodle soup (9,900 won, though some posts say 10,900), with xiaolongbao or shrimp har gow (around 6,000 won) or egg fried rice on the side; kimchi, pickled radish and sauces are self-serve. One post says no alcohol is sold. We read 30 posts dated March 17 to October 15, 2026; one was about another restaurant, and all of the other 29 describe a visit.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Twenty posts called the food spicy and one said it was not. Heat tolerance varies: one writer said the suanlafen was 'really, really hot' and brought tears, while the dissenter said it was 'not spicy — sour is the right word'. Others found it more sour than hot, and some added extra vinegar from the self-serve bar.
  2. Twenty posts say you order at a kiosk, which stands right inside the entrance; one adds that food is then brought to your table, and another that the kiosk works in Korean, English, Japanese and Chinese.
  3. Thirteen posts describe walking from Hongik Univ. Station: about five minutes or 219 m from Exit 8, or three to five minutes from Exit 7 on the Gyeongui–Jungang side.
  4. Fifteen posts called the place clean, usually alongside remarks that it had only just opened ('not a single scribble'), and several said the self-serve bar was kept tidy. One writer did notice kimchi stains on both sets of tongs.
4 more
  1. Eight posts said the room is small ('cramped', 'best for two to four'). The ten posts that described seating mention a mix of two- and four-person tables; one counted about eight tables, another put capacity at about 20. Two posts said the food came out quickly.
  2. Seventeen posts said prices were easy on the wallet — 'hardly anything over 10,000 won', four dishes for two in the 30,000s, under 20,000 won a head. Eight posts mention a free Chinese or canned drink for leaving a Naver receipt review.
  3. Fourteen posts called the food juicy, mostly the xiaolongbao, with repeated advice to pierce them on a spoon first — one writer bit in and splashed broth all over their clothes. One post said the har gow were not especially juicy.
  4. One post (October 2026) went for dinner hoping for a drink and found the shop sells food only, no alcohol. No other post mentions alcohol.

Getting inside

Second floor5 of 29 posts
Toilet insideyes 0 · no 1 (of 29 posts read)

The address says ground floor, unit 101, but five posts place the shop on the second floor, and others describe it as 'half a floor up' or '1.5 floors'. The way in is a staircase to the left of the building, and a couple of writers said it took a while to find; one tip is to approach from the Geumbyeol Maekju side, where the stairs are in plain view.

No one wrote about getting in with a wheelchair or stroller. Most posts say the entrance is up a flight of stairs beside the building, and none mention an elevator or ramp — though that means no one wrote about one, not that none exists.

One post says the toilet is outside the shop and you take a key with you. No one described whether it is gender-separated or how big it is.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • Two posts said there was no wait, around 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. No one wrote about the peak lunch or dinner hour; one noted a crowd arriving right after they sat down.
  • Opening hours: 25 posts list 10:00–22:00 daily with last orders at 21:30, nearly all copied from the listing. First-hand notes are limited to one writer confirming a 10 a.m. opening and another finding no afternoon break at 3 p.m. No post mentions a closing day.
  • Prices come in two sets. Four posts (March 17, May 24, June 14 and 15, 2026) give beef noodles at 10,900 won, xiaolongbao and har gow at 8,000, egg fried rice at 9,500 and mapo tofu rice at 12,900; the rest give 9,900, 6,000, 8,000 and 11,000. Both sets appear across the same months, so we do not read this as a price change, and no post explains the difference.
  • The phone number 0507-1449-7041 is copied in many posts, but no one wrote about calling ahead or making a reservation.
  • Many posts from March to June 2026 repeat the same phrases — 'near Hongik Univ. Station', 'good-value Seogyo-dong', 'Chongqing, not Shanghai' — and four end with an identical string of nine hashtags. None discloses sponsorship, and only four say the writer paid. We counted them all because each records its own order, prices and seating, but this may explain why the praise sounds alike.
