Chinese

Wangga Toyodak

왕가토요닭 Wangga means 'the Wang house'; toyodak appears to be the Korean reading of Chinese earthen-kiln chicken (tu yao ji) — posts describe a whole chicken baked wrapped in lotus leaf and foil.

Compiled from 3 blog posts read in fullSources →

A Chinese restaurant near Hongik University Station in Seogyo-dong, built around its whole chicken baked in lotus leaf, alongside grilled naengmyeon dough, chewy grilled noodle bites, lemon chicken feet, fried rice and dumplings, mostly in the 6,000-10,000 won range. Staff tear the chicken apart at the table and bring gloves and cumin dip. We read 4 posts from October 2025 to September 2026, all four from actual visits.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Both posts that discussed price called it cheap; one ordered the chicken, chicken feet, a grilled noodle dish and a cola in October 2025 and paid just over 30,000 won.
  2. One post noted every other customer was Chinese; another said the owners are Chinese and talking was a little hard, but each table has a kiosk for ordering.

Getting inside

Second floor2 of 3 posts

The address says unit 102 on the first floor, but two visitors wrote that the dining room is upstairs; one described climbing a wooden staircase on the right to reach it.

The two posts that mentioned the floor both said upstairs; none mentioned a basement, and nobody said whether there is any seating on the ground floor.

Nobody wrote about wheelchair or stroller access or an elevator; one post only mentioned going up a wooden staircase. That means no one wrote about it, not that there is none.

One post lists the toilet as unisex and inside the restaurant, but that was copied from the listing, so we don't count it. No one described it first-hand.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • Prices went up: the house chicken was 14,900 won and lemon chicken feet 9,900 won in October 2025, then 15,900 and 10,900 won in September 2026. The grilled noodle dish stayed at 5,900 won.
  • Opinions on size split one to one: one post found it roomier than expected with at least four four-person tables; the other said it is not large, with about seven tables.
  • Seasoning splits too: one post found the chicken fairly salty, another found the food mild overall.
  • The 4-minute walk from Hongik University Station exits 7 and 8 appears only in copied directions in one post; nobody described actually getting there by subway or bus.
  • Only one post mentions waiting: no queue around 7 pm on a weekday, and all the food arrived within 10-15 minutes. Nobody wrote about weekends or late nights.
  • We don't know who people came with: posts guessed it would suit friends or small groups, but none said who they actually went with, so we didn't count it.
  • Three posts all list opening hours of 11:00 to 01:00 daily, last order 00:55, but all three copied it from the listing. Nobody mentioned a closing day.
  • The phone number 0507-1453-1975 appears only in one post's copied listing; nobody wrote about whether reservations are taken.
