Umuljip
우물집 Umul-jip means 'well house' — the building is themed around a well, with a real, running water well by the ground-floor entrance.
Compiled from 21 blog posts read in fullSources →
Umuljip's Hongdae branch fills all four floors of a building down a Seogyo-dong side street (8 Wausan-ro 29ma-gil), near Hongik University Station. A running-water well and the counter sit by the ground-floor entrance; you give the booking name, get a room number such as 201, 202, 301 or 303, and go upstairs. Each diner gets an individual tray: one hotpot (soy, spicy tomato or clear vegetable broth, with thin-sliced beef or Korean-beef brisket), a pot of rice (bracken-shiitake or thistle-tomato-basil), side dishes like steamed egg and salad, and a raw egg. As of August 2026 posts, the beef-slice set was ₩27,500 and the Korean-beef set ₩29,500. We read 30 posts from December 2024 to October 2026: 21 describe an actual meal, 8 only introduce or list the place, and 1 was about a different restaurant. Eight of the 21 meals were wedding-invitation get-togethers.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.
What sets it apart
- Partitioned rooms are the point of this place: 18 of the 21 meal posts say they ate in a private room. Not every room has a door, though — two posts noted there was none, and one thought doors come with bookings of four or more. One post said you could see the next table through the decorative screen.
- Some rooms have floor seating: 4 posts mention it, and two describe rooms with chairs on one side and a shoes-off raised floor on the other. One group swapped seats because a friend was wearing a skirt.
- 12 of the 21 meal posts booked ahead, mostly through CatchTable. One got a same-day booking on a Sunday.
- 6 posts say you order from a kiosk or tablet in the room.

- Opinions on the spicy tomato hotpot split: 3 posts called it spicy, 1 said it was not very hot. In one couple's post, he found it too hot while she found it pleasantly spicy.
- 3 posts said the broth was not salty; 1 found the soy hotpot too salty to drink as soup.
- 4 posts said portions were larger than they looked. One thought the hotpot looked small but still left full, so it stays undecided.
- 3 posts got a free sikhye (sweet rice drink) for writing a review.
- 4 posts say it is an easy walk from Hongik University Station — about 200 m or three minutes from exit 7 on the Gyeongui-Jungang line side.
- 15 posts went with friends, 3 with family and 1 as a couple. Three were larger groups of six to eight.

Parking

One post drove and says there is no parking, so they used a nearby public lot. Several others copy 'no parking' into an info block; we did not count those.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.
From the station
4 posts say it is an easy walk from Hongik University Station — about 200 m or three minutes from exit 7 on the Gyeongui-Jungang line side.
Getting inside
| Second floor | 8 of 21 posts |
|---|
Seating is upstairs: 8 posts say they were shown to a room on the second or third floor. Two posts mention ringing a bell at the empty ground-floor counter and waiting briefly for staff.
No one mentions a basement. Most posts describe the ground floor as entrance, well and counter, with meals upstairs, but they disagree on whether there are rooms on the ground floor too.
We don't know whether a wheelchair or stroller can get in. Seating is upstairs and one post mentions the stairs, but nobody says whether there is a lift or a step at the door — that is missing information, not evidence of absence. One post warns that the log-stepping path at the entrance is narrow.
Nobody says where the toilets are or whether they are separated by gender; one post only noted they were clean and stocked with mouthwash.
No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 29 posts we gathered, 8 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- Prices have gone up. A December 2024 post paid ₩27,000 for the beef-slice set; posts from November 2025 to August 2026 show ₩27,500 for beef slices and ₩29,500 for Korean beef. One post from 3 October 2026 lists ₩29,500 and ₩32,500 — a single source, so check on arrival. 3 posts called it pricey; 1 sponsored post called it good value.
- No post reports queuing; one says they walked straight in thanks to a booking. How long a walk-in waits is unknown.
- 2 posts said food took a while. The hotpots are kept warm by a small candle underneath; one diner added extra meat and vegetables and found it still hadn't boiled after 20 minutes.
- It is a chain: one post found out afterwards, and another lists Hongdae, Bucheon, Myeongdong and Guui branches.
- Posts copy the opening hours inconsistently. Several 2026 posts give Mon–Thu 11:30–21:30 and Fri–Sun 11:30–22:30 (last orders 20:20/21:20), but others say 21:30 daily or 22:30 daily, and 4 list a 15:00–17:00 break. All of this is copied, so check before going. No post mentions a closing day.
- 7 posts give the phone number 070-8835-5600; one March 2025 post lists 0507-1447-8956. Most people booked through CatchTable or Naver.
- We set aside 8 posts: 5 neighbourhood top-10 lists, 2 info roundups with no first-hand detail, and 1 voucher-funded review that never names a dish. Among the meal posts, 1 disclosed sponsorship and 5 said they paid their own way.
