Uijeongbu Budaejjigae

의정부부대찌개 Uijeongbu is the city north of Seoul that budae-jjigae, the ham-and-sausage army-base stew, is named after; despite the name, this shop is in Seogyo-dong, Mapo.

A one-dish budae-jjigae shop at Worldcup-ro 14-gil 33 in Seogyo-dong, Mapo, near Exit 1 of Mangwon Station. In posts from March 2026 it costs 13,000 won per person with a two-portion minimum, rice included. Once the pot arrives the owner works the room, keeping lids shut until it's ready and topping up the broth. The shop moved here from nearby Worldcup-ro 10-gil 36 on 28 February 2026. We read 21 posts dated 2 March to 2 October 2026: 18 describe a visit, 2 are write-ups or list entries, and 1 is about another restaurant.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. The owner runs your pot. Nine visit posts say he or a staff member cooks it at the table and keeps adding broth. Posts warn you not to lift the lid until he says so, or you'll get told off; the noodle packet arrives half-open and he adds it himself. One post says he has stopped scolding people lately.
  2. Nine posts call the portions generous. Rice comes up a lot: millet-mixed rice served in a soup bowl, which one post put at about 1.5 servings. Several say there's so much glass noodle already in the pot that you needn't add more.
  3. No more floor seating since the move. Eight posts mention the relocation, and five of them say every seat is now at a table. One post describes the old place as half floor, half table seating with under ten tables, and the new one as around twenty tables. Four posts find the new room bright and clean; one March post found it still a bit bare.

Posts saying you can park5 of 17 posts

Getting inside

We don't know the floor from experience: the address says ground floor, but no post describes going in.

We don't know whether there's a step at the entrance or whether a wheelchair or stroller can get in. Nobody wrote about it, which isn't the same as there being a problem.

No post says where the toilet is or whether it's split by gender.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 19 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Expect a wait at lunch. Three posts waited: one arrived around 11:50 on a weekday and waited 10 minutes, one came ten minutes before noon to a long line that moved fast, and one saw a queue form again after they sat down past 1 pm. One post walked straight in around 1 pm, and another says evenings are quieter than lunch.
  • Saltiness splits two to two: two posts found it salty (one added water that day), two found it not salty. Two posts say it isn't spicy.
  • Posts from March 2026 give 13,000 won per person; two portions with ramyeon come to 27,000 won. One post says the price rose 1,000 won at the move. One post calls it fairly pricey, another calls it good value.
  • Opening hours have changed. A March 2026 post copied a schedule closed Sundays plus the second and fourth Saturdays; every post from late May on says it's closed both Saturday and Sunday. Weekdays it opens at 11:00 with a break from 15:00 to 17:00. Three posts give closing time as 21:30 and one as 21:00, mostly copied from listings. Three posts say alcohol is served only from 1 pm.
  • Many posts copy the line that it's 200 m from Mangwon Station Exit 1, but only one actually describes walking there from the station.
  • Three posts give the same phone number, 02-333-6820. None says whether it takes reservations, though one suggests calling ahead about parking.
  • Three posts went with friends or acquaintances, one with family, one as a couple and one as a group of four. One post saw people eating alone, but none of the posters went alone.
