Tomeru

토메루 Tomeru is a Japanese verb meaning 'to stop' or 'to hold in place'; one writer joked about its intransitive pair, tomaru.

Compiled from 24 blog posts read in fullSources →

Tomeru is a yakitori izakaya in an alley off Wausan-ro 29-gil, a short walk from Exit 7 of Hongik University Station. It opens at 6 pm and serves binchotan-grilled skewers, as six- or ten-piece assortments or one by one, with highballs, sours and draft beer. Of 26 posts by people who went, 15 ordered the ten-skewer set, priced at 33,000 won in 2026 posts; two put the set with two sours at 47,000 won. We read 30 posts from March 2025 to September 2026: one was about the Wangsimni branch and was set aside, and three only repeated listing information without a visit.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Eight posts mention edamame arriving as a free starter, and two noticed the water jug holds cold barley-style tea rather than plain water.
  2. There are ordering rules. Two posts say individual skewers start at a minimum of six, one adding that later rounds need at least two. One post says each person must order a drink, and another says one menu item per person.
  3. Seating is mostly tables, plus a counter facing the grill. Seven posts describe both tables and counter seats, and one says the counter has only two seats. Writers repeatedly mention bamboo blinds lowered from the ceiling to screen each table from its neighbours. One August 2026 post says there were only regular tables.
  4. Six posts say they could watch the cook fanning the skewers over the coals; one counter diner said it made the wait pass quickly.

One post addresses parking from experience: there is none, so transit was easier. The 'no parking / use the public lot nearby' lines in other posts are copied from the listing.

Getting inside

Toilet inside5 of 24 posts
Separate restroomsyes 0 · no 1 (of 24 posts read)

We are not sure which floor it is on. The registered address says basement level 1, the addresses bloggers attached all say ground floor, and no one described going down stairs or entering at street level.

No one wrote about a step at the door or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller — that means we don't know, not that there is no barrier. One writer only noted the entrance is small.

Five posts say the toilet is inside the restaurant. One notes it is a single unisex stall, inconvenient but kept clean.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 27 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Only one post mentions a queue: arriving around 7 pm they walked straight in, but a line formed right after them. Several others found the room nearly full on arrival — at 6:30 pm, or with one table left on a weekend. One post saw outdoor waiting seats, and one booked ahead and sat at the counter.
  • Two posts say the skewers were slow; one waited over 40 minutes and also felt the set was poor value for the price.
  • Opinions on space split two to one: two found it bigger than expected with well-spaced tables, one found the tables too close together.
  • Prices have shifted. A menu copied in March 2025 showed 31,000 won for ten skewers, 21,000 for six and 18,000 for the sweet-and-sour; by April 2025 the six-piece was 22,000 and the sweet-and-sour 20,000, and posts from February 2026 show 33,000 for ten. For a full bill, one post paid 41,000 won for ten skewers and a highball, and a group of three spent about 170,000 won. One post found it pricey; two called the prices fair.
  • Posts agree on hours of 6 pm to 2 am daily with last orders at 1 am, though mostly copied from the listing; one writer arrived at 5:30 and was turned away until opening. Many posts give the same phone number, 0507-1319-9206, and one says they booked ahead.
  • The house's own claims — skewers hand-prepped daily, domestic chicken, binchotan — recur in near-identical wording across posts; we treat them as copied and don't count them. Only one post disclosed a hosted visit, and two templated posts by the same blogger that just repeated review statistics were not counted.
