Sonogong Maratang Seogyo-jeom
손오공마라탕 서교점 Son Ogong is the Korean name for Sun Wukong, the Monkey King of Journey to the West, and maratang is the Sichuan numbing-spicy soup the house serves; Seogyo is the branch's neighbourhood.

The Seogyo-dong branch of a maratang chain, up a flight of stairs on the second floor of a side-street building between Hapjeong and Hongik University stations, near the KT&G Sangsangmadang venue. You fill a bowl at the ingredient bar, have it weighed at the counter, and choose soup maratang (2,300 won per 100 g, 7,000-won minimum), dressed mala ban (2,800 won, 9,000 minimum) or stir-fried xiang guo (3,400 won, 15,000 minimum) plus a heat level, then collect it when the buzzer goes. Posts put a bowl at around 10,000 won; one itemises 7,314 won of ingredients plus 3,000 won for beef, 10,314 won in all. A vegetable-stock broth and mushroom guobaorou draw a number of vegan bloggers, and several posts mention taking an ice cream on the way out. We read 26 posts from September 2025 to September 2026; 22 describe an actual meal there.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- Nine posts call the place clean, and they say what they saw: tongs and bowls without a trace of water stains, a label on every sauce container, and, in two posts, staff topping up and swapping ingredients and tidying even at a quiet hour.
- Eight posts say the room is large. Two compare it with the chain's Donggyo branch by Hongik University station: one rates Seogyo ahead on space and comfort, the other likes that Seogyo's toilet is indoors while Donggyo's is outside.
- Three posts mention a free self-serve coffee machine; one says there is an ice maker and takeaway cups, and left with an iced americano.
- Two posts find it salty: a five-or-six-year regular says the seasoning has been getting stronger and adds hot water, and another found even level-1 mala ban salty enough to need rice.

Only one post addresses parking, saying there is no dedicated space and you would need a public car park nearby. A 'one free space beside the shop' line appears only in a copied block, so we don't rely on it. No post describes arriving by car.

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside
| Second floor | 7 of 19 posts |
|---|---|
| In a basement | yes 0 · no 7 (of 19 posts read) |
| Toilet inside | 2 of 19 posts |
The restaurant is on the second floor and one post mentions the stairs up to it. Nobody says whether there is a lift or a step at the door, or got in with a wheelchair or pushchair; that means we don't know, not that there isn't one.
Two posts say the toilet is inside the restaurant, and one washed hands at a basin outside the toilet. Separate men's and women's toilets appear only in a copied info block, so we did not count it.
No one mentioned: Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 23 posts we gathered, 4 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- On waiting, single posts disagree: one went on a Sunday around 4-5 pm, found it full and waited briefly; one found it quiet around 8 pm on a Saturday; one says only that it is fine outside peak times. Another says it filled up at noon on a weekday but does not say they waited. No post gives a wait time.
- Two posts say first-hand that it is an easy walk from Hongik University station exit 9 or Hapjeong exit 3. The '8 minutes from Hapjeong exit 3' line is copied listing info.
- Prices barely vary across 2025-2026 posts, except xiang guo per 100 g: three posts say 3,400 won, one (July 2026) says 3,500. Four posts call it good value; none call it expensive.
- Seven posts give the same hours, 11:00-21:50 daily with last orders at 21:00, and one adds there is no closing day or afternoon break; three of the seven copied this from the listing.
- Four posts list the phone number as 02-336-4888 and two as 0507-1363-4888. No post says whether it takes reservations.
- One listing post and three diary posts with a single line were not counted as visits. Claims the shop makes about itself, such as a hygiene grade or 'number one in sales', are copied promotion and not used as evidence; one post disclosed sponsorship.
