Sumiyoi
스미요이 Sumiyoi is a Japanese-sounding name; the posts never explain what it means.
Compiled from 28 blog posts read in fullSources →
Sumiyoi is a Japanese yakiniku izakaya on the second floor of 73 Yanghwa-ro 6-gil, between Hapjeong and Sangsu stations. Each table gets a charcoal brazier and you grill the meat yourself. Of the 29 posts from people who went, 16 had the yakiniku set (350 g, 47,900 won) and 10 had the larger 500 g set (62,900 won). Both come with chuck flap, rib finger, chuck eye, boneless short rib and chicken neck, plus vegetables for grilling. As sides, 14 posts ordered the mini pollock-roe rice (1,900 won) and 9 ordered the horumon ramyeon (7,900 won). We read 30 posts dated 22 September to 12 October 2026, and 29 of them describe an actual visit. The place opened in late September, so all of these posts fall within three weeks. Opening hours changed in early October (see below).

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.
What sets it apart
- The windows are the main draw. 17 posts describe sitting by them or having them thrown wide open — one said the staff had opened almost every window, another that with the whole wall open it felt like sitting half outdoors. The street outside is lined with cherry trees, and several posts expect it to look lovely in spring. Two posts sat at separate terrace tables, and one noted those tables can't be booked. All of these posts come from mild September–October weather, so we don't know whether the windows stay open when it's cold.
- 12 posts call the room spacious, almost always because of the gaps between tables. Most tables seat four, and one post mentions a six-seat table on one side. Seven posts said it wasn't noisy or felt calm.
- You grill your own meat. Five posts say plainly that staff don't do it for you and that each diner gets their own tongs. Many say staff explain the order to cook the cuts in, starting with the chuck flap. Some add that the chicken neck comes marinated and goes on last.
- Nine posts say you order from a tablet or kiosk at the table.
2 more
- Five posts found the portions generous — one couple said the 500 g set was too much for two, and some thought even the 350 g set was plenty. Two posts only called the amount about right.
- Six posts booked ahead through Naver. Two noticed a CatchTable sign-up and waiting seats at the entrance.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside
| Second floor | 18 of 28 posts |
|---|---|
| Lift to the floor | 6 of 28 posts |
| Toilet inside | 3 of 28 posts |
It's on the second floor, but there's a lift. Six posts mention taking it — one said the shop door is right where the lift opens. 18 posts note that the restaurant sits on the building's second floor.
No post says whether there's a step at the door or whether anyone went in with a wheelchair or stroller. 'Wheelchair accessible' appears only in copied listing text, so we don't rely on it. This doesn't mean there's a problem — it means nobody wrote about it. Six posts did use the lift.
Three posts say from experience that the toilet is inside the restaurant, and one lists mouthwash, cotton swabs, floss and hand cream laid out there. Separate men's and women's toilets show up only in one post's copied listing.
No one mentioned: In a basement · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 29 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- On waiting, it's one post against one. One person went on a weekday evening and found every table taken except their reserved one, with others still queuing. Another arrived at weekend opening time and walked straight in. Nobody wrote down how many minutes they waited.
- Service speed is split: one post said the food came out a bit slowly, and another said drinks, brazier and meat all arrived quickly.
- Three posts actually walked from the station; one said it took under ten minutes from Hapjeong exit 6. The '417 m from exit 6' figure in the other posts is copied from the listing.
- Opening hours changed in early October. Posts up to 3 October copied Friday–Saturday 17:00–02:00, with weekends also opening at 17:00. From 8 October most posts give Mon–Thu 17:00–24:00, Fri 17:00–01:00, Sat 16:00–01:00 and Sun 16:00–24:00, with last orders an hour before closing. Both sets of hours come from copied listings, and in the newer period three posts still give a 01:00 Sunday close. Only one post says the place is open every day of the year.
- Prices mostly agree: the yakiniku set is 47,900 won, and one post wrote 42,900. One couple paid 66,800 won for the set plus a draft beer, a cola, ramyeon and rice; another paid 55,900 won for the set and two drinks. Soju shows up at 5,500 won in some posts and at an opening-promotion 3,000 won in others from the same weeks. Six posts thought the prices fair.
- Among posts that say who they went with, 10 went as a couple or with a spouse, 5 with friends and 1 with a group of bandmates. None went with children.
- The phone number, 0507-1378-8729, is the same in every post that lists it. Bookings go through Naver or CatchTable, and one post's copied listing says to phone about private hire.
- Most posts cluster between 8 and 12 October and share the same info block and hashtags, which looks like a sponsored-review batch. Three posts disclose sponsorship, three carry a paid-it-myself receipt badge, and the other 24 say nothing either way. We didn't count superlatives like 'best yakiniku ever' — only what people actually saw, such as the windows, the seating and how ordering works.
