Grill houseKorean

Seogyodong Yeontanjip

서교동연탄집 Yeontan are the cylindrical coal briquettes once used to heat Korean homes, and Seogyo-dong is the neighborhood — the 'briquette house of Seogyo-dong', where pork is grilled over a briquette set under each table.

Compiled from 28 blog posts read in fullSources →

A coal-briquette pork grill at 158 Donggyo-ro, Mapo-gu, a 3-to-10-minute walk from Exit 1 of Hongik University Station. Each table has a briquette under a heavy cast-iron plate, and aged pork comes in 200 g portions — in posts from August 2026 on, neck, belly and the fattier 'gourmet' belly are all 18,000 won. Staff usually do the grilling, steamed egg and soybean-paste stew come at no charge, and many diners finish with fried rice shaped like a briquette (8,000 won). Weekday lunch is a set of specials such as braised kimchi and briquette-grilled bulgogi. Through July 2026 the meat was 16,000 won. We read 29 posts dated 8 August 2025 to 13 October 2026, and all 29 describe an actual visit.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. You don't grill your own meat here. 23 of the 29 posts say a server or the owner did it. Several describe the plate being rubbed with pork fat and its temperature checked with a gauge before the meat goes on. Some say staff cooked it start to finish; another says they only seared and cut it, then left the rest to the diners. Two further posts say the meat arrived already seared — one notes it was done in a side area so the smoke never reached the table.
  2. 19 of the 29 posts say steamed egg and soybean-paste stew came free with the meat. One diner, surprised to see dishes they hadn't ordered, was told they always come on the house; another notes steamed egg usually costs about 5,000 won elsewhere.
  3. 18 posts call the room spacious. One counts about fifteen round steel tables in a single hall, another notes a group area set slightly apart, and several found large groups already seated. Many mention the folding doors being thrown open in good weather, giving it the feel of an open-air street stall.
  4. 7 posts mention that writing a receipt review earns a free bowl of cold kimchi noodles; one specifies once per table.

  1. 11 posts describe getting there on foot, quoting 3, 5, 6, 7 and under 10 minutes from Exit 1 of Hongik University Station. One came by a bus that stops right outside.

Posts saying you can park14 of 28 posts

14 posts say you can park. Many repeat the figures of three spaces in front and six in the building's lot, and two say the building lot is available only after 6 p.m. One driver who parked out front warns that space is tight and suggests calling ahead. A single post's info box says to use a nearby public lot instead.

Getting inside

Toilet insideyes 0 · no 1 (of 28 posts read)

No post describes the floor from experience; the address says ground floor, but nobody mentions whether there are steps at the entrance.

No post says whether there is a step at the door or whether a wheelchair or stroller gets in. That is not a no — nobody wrote about it. One family came with a child but says nothing about a stroller.

Only one post mentions the toilet: it is not inside the restaurant but off the building's stairwell toward the second floor, with a code you get from staff. Nobody says whether it is separated by sex.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • Prices have gone up. Posts from August 2025 and May and July 2026 list 200 g of neck or belly at 16,000 won and the fried rice and brisket stew-rice at 7,000; from the 10 August 2026 post on they are 18,000 and 8,000. The cold noodles went from 6,000 to 7,000 won. One post says three portions of meat and one side filled two people — at current prices that meal is 62,000 won.
  • No one reports waiting. One weekday-noon lunch visitor found no empty tables, and a Sunday diner who arrived at 5:30 p.m. says it filled up suddenly at six.
  • 18 posts give opening hours, mostly copied from the listing. 15 agree on weekdays 11:00-24:00 with a 14:00-16:00 break and weekends 16:00-24:00; 7 give last orders at 23:30. One says last orders at 23:00, and a 17 September 2026 post alone lists 11:30-22:30 with a weekday break of 15:30-16:30. An August 2025 post says it went for weekend lunch, though the same post's copied hours have weekends opening at 4 p.m. No post mentions a regular closing day.
  • Seven posts give the phone number as 0507-1339-1480; one lists 010-8870-1480. Three posts say they booked ahead, and info boxes note Naver reservations.
  • Two posts disclose sponsorship, three say they paid their own way, and the other 24 say nothing. Many posts from July to October 2026 share the same hashtag block and the same talking points — 200 g portions, the lunch specials, doors thrown open for a street-stall feel — which suggests commissioned writing; read the enthusiasm with that in mind. We counted only what each post says it actually experienced.
