Seogwan Myeonok Hongdae

서관면옥 홍대점 Myeonok is an old word for a noodle house; the posts do not explain what Seogwan means.

Compiled from 23 blog posts read in fullSources →

A Pyongyang-style cold noodle house on the ground floor of the Nudit Hongdae complex in Seogyo-dong, Mapo, and the Hongdae branch of Seogwan Myeonok, whose main shop is in Gyodae. All-buckwheat Pyongyang naengmyeon is 17,000 won, goldong and matbagi noodles 19,000 won; at lunch there is a bulgogi-and-noodle set (28,000 won) and a limited daily tray, the Seogwan myeonsang (18,000 won). Many diners shared Korean beef bulgogi (32,000 won for 180 g), mung bean pancakes or dumplings alongside the noodles. We read 30 posts dated 23 July to 7 October 2026: 24 describe a visit, 3 were set aside as being about the Gyodae shop or another business in the building, and 3 were one-line entries in restaurant lists.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Space is what people mention most: 15 of the 24 visit posts said the room is large or the tables well apart, so you are not aware of the next table. Four noted the high ceiling and two the full-height windows looking onto greenery.
  2. Cold buckwheat tea comes instead of water; six posts mentioned it. Several also described the kelp vinegar and mustard on each table and a small booklet explaining how to eat the noodles.
  3. Five posts called it quiet enough to talk over a meal, set back from the busy Hongdae streets. The only remark that it gets noisy came from a list entry, which we did not count.
  4. Bulgogi simmers on a broth-filled pan with vegetables. Three posts said staff put it on the pan; one added that after that you turn it yourself, so we cannot say staff cook it through.

Posts saying you can park4 of 23 posts

Four posts were by people who drove, and all four found the building's underground car park easy, one calling it very roomy. The one-hour free parking and 800 won per extra 10 minutes is copied from the listing in many posts.

Getting inside

In a basementyes 0 · no 6 (of 23 posts read)
Lift to the floor1 of 23 posts

It is on the ground floor, not below it: six visit posts placed it inside the building on the first floor, including one by a guest staying upstairs who went down for a noon breakfast. One diner took the lift up from the underground car park and found the sign right there.

No one wrote about entering with a wheelchair or pram. One post copied 'wheelchair accessible entrance' from the listing, which we do not treat as evidence, and nobody mentioned a step at the door. We simply don't know.

No post said where the toilets are or whether they are separate for men and women.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 26 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

2026-08-282 posts in one day

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Portions divide opinion: three posts found the hot pot or noodles generous, while one said the bulgogi on the limited lunch tray was a single bite.
  • Getting there by train divides people: four posts found it an easy walk, one said it is at least 15 minutes on foot from any station. The figure of about 680 m from Mangwon Station exit 1 is copied from the listing.
  • Waiting is rarely mentioned. One post walked straight in; one found lunch crowded the day after a midsummer holiday, another found it nearly empty at summer's end. One regular failed three times before getting the limited lunch tray.
  • Thirteen posts gave the same opening hours, daily 11:00-21:00 with a 15:00-17:00 break and last orders at 20:30, mostly copied from the listing; three added a 14:40 lunch last order. One diner slipped in at 2:37 pm and ate before the break.
  • One post differs on price: a 10 September 2026 post gave 16,000 won for spicy noodles, 18,000 for matbagi and 13,000 for dumplings, while posts before and after give 17,000, 19,000 and 14,000. One diner found it expensive, another called the lunch tray good value. One receipt shows 85,000 won for two with two lunch sets, dumplings and rice wine.
  • Many posts give the same phone number, 0507-1379-5735. That bookings and groups of five or more are accepted appears only in one post's copied listing; no one wrote that they booked.
  • The eight-year Blue Ribbon run, stone-milled buckwheat, beef broth and 'open about a year' are the house's own claims or hearsay, so we did not count them. One post said they saw a wall full of celebrity autographs.
