AURORA
카페 오로라 Kape Orora Aurora is the northern lights — the house leans on the name with iridescent acrylic on the facade and colour-shifting lights inside.

Cafe Aurora is a large dessert cafe at 139 Wausan-ro, Mapo-gu, about a ten-minute walk from exit 6 of Hongik Univ. Station. The cafe is on the ground floor, a gallery with seating sits down a flight of stairs in the basement, and there is an outdoor terrace. You order at the counter; the usual picks are bear-shaped financiers (mostly ₩3,500), levain cookies (₩3,500–4,000) and the strawberry matcha latte (₩6,500). We read 24 posts from January 2025 to October 2026: four were about other places and were set aside, one was only a check-in, and 19 describe a visit. Ten of those 19 say they were paid or given the food.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.
What sets it apart
- Seventeen posts mention the outdoor terrace, which one says is in two spots, by the entrance and further in. An August 2025 post thought it was closed for the heat, and a May 2025 post says it can't be used in rain.
- Eight posts call it quiet for central Hongdae. One says it is never crowded whatever the hour, another found it calm around 4 pm on a weekday. One post warns that all the tables are low for laptop work and that there are few seats near an outlet.
- Seven posts note that drinks are ₩1,000 off on weekdays (bottled drinks, weekends and holidays excluded, says one). Four mention a review event that gives you a bear financier for posting a review.
- No post calls it expensive, and five say it isn't — one cites a ₩5,000 Americano as fair for a big Hongdae cafe, another says the drinks are one and a half to two times the usual size.
3 more
- Six posts found the desserts less sweet than they looked; three called something sweet — the Oreo cookie, the chocolate bear, the watermelon juice.
- Two posts say children under 14 and pets are not allowed. Several other posts carry 'no-kids zone' in copied info blocks, which we did not count.
- Six posts describe walking from the station, all putting it 8–10 minutes or about 500 m from exit 6 of Hongik Univ. Station; one adds that a bus gets you close.

Parking

Three posts say there is no parking and none say otherwise; one suggests the nearby Seogyo public lot (₩300 per 10 minutes). Other posts' 'no parking' lines are copied info.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.
From the station
Six posts describe walking from the station, all putting it 8–10 minutes or about 500 m from exit 6 of Hongik Univ. Station; one adds that a bus gets you close.
Getting inside
| Second floor | 6 of 19 posts |
|---|---|
| In a basement | 17 of 19 posts |
| Step at the entrance | 1 of 19 posts |
| Toilet inside | 5 of 19 posts |
| Separate restrooms | 3 of 19 posts |
A loft-like mezzanine sits half a flight up on one side of the ground floor. Six posts describe it (as 'floor 1.5', 'half a flight up', or a second floor); one counts two tables for two and one group table there, and another had to wait for a seat to open up.
You enter at ground level, and the basement gallery has seating too. Seventeen visit posts went down the stairs to look at the art or sit there. One mentions a 15-seat group table, another says the mirrored ceiling keeps it from feeling cramped, and one spotted a Julian Opie piece. No post mentions a lift.
No post describes getting in with a wheelchair or stroller. One says the ground floor feels almost like a second floor because you climb several steps, and the basement gallery is reached by stairs. That is not proof of step-free access — nobody wrote about it.
Five posts say the restrooms are inside the cafe, and three of them say they are separate for men and women. One mentions a bidet and hand dryer.
No one mentioned: Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 20 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- No post mentions queuing. That doesn't mean there is never a wait, only that nobody wrote about one; several found it uncrowded.
- Company is evenly split: two posts with friends, two with family, two with a partner, two alone. The rest don't say.
- All opening hours here are copied. Two posts from January and February 2025 give 11:00–21:00 daily; most from April 2025 on give Mon–Sat 11:00–21:00 and Sunday 11:00–20:00 (last order 20:30, Sunday 19:30). One May 2025 post still says 21:00 daily, and one August 2025 post lists 09:00 weekday opening and an 18:00 Saturday close.
- Many posts give the phone number 0507-1399-8450. Copied info blocks disagree on whether reservations are taken, and no post actually booked.
- Prices are nearly the same across 2025 and 2026 posts, though the watermelon juice went from ₩7,000 (August 2025) to ₩7,500 (September 2026). A drink plus a dessert runs about ₩9,500–11,000.
- Ten of the 19 visit posts disclose payment or free food, and the same ten-hashtag block appears verbatim at the end of several posts — including some that disclose nothing.
