Musoe Gimchi Samgyeop

무쇠김치삼겹 Musoe means cast iron and samgyeop is pork belly — the house grills pork belly and a whole head of kimchi together on a cast-iron pan.

Compiled from 13 blog posts read in fullSources →

A pork-belly house on the ground floor of a building on Wausan-ro 21-gil, a couple of minutes from Hongik University's main gate. Pork belly, a whole head of kimchi and tofu go onto a cast-iron pan in the middle of the table and staff grill everything for you; afterwards the same pan becomes kimchi stew or kkakdugi-minari fried rice (3,000 won). As of September–October 2026 a 130 g portion of the kimchi pork belly is 13,000 won and the first order must be at least three portions, so even a couple orders three. One pair paid 47,000 won for three portions, fried rice and a bottle of soju. We read 21 posts from July 2025 to October 2026; 2 were about the escape room upstairs and were set aside, and 14 describe an actual visit.

Rows without a count: 4 of 7 posts.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Staff do the grilling: 10 of the 14 visit posts say so — one diner never touched the meat, and staff cut the kimchi with scissors once it cooks and arrange the tofu too. Expect fat to spatter: three posts mention a splash guard being put up, and still one writer got hit on the arm and another says it splatters past the guard. One post says some staff grill better than others.
  2. Meat has a three-portion minimum on the first order — six posts mention it, and a couple who went as two simply ordered three. Three posts ate three portions and then added two more.
  3. Four posts say you order on a tablet or kiosk fixed to the table; one writer had to borrow the menu from Naver because there was no printed one to photograph.
  4. Four posts call the room large, with tables from two-tops to groups of four or more spaced apart; one went for a team dinner. Two posts noticed many foreign diners.
2 more
  1. No one reports waiting. Three posts say there was no queue — a late Saturday lunch with the room more than half full, around 10 p.m., and a January evening. A team-dinner post reserved ahead and was seated straight away.
  2. Four posts call it cheap or fair; one walked in because of the price before learning about the three-portion rule, another says it beats a generic 30,000–40,000 won meal for two in Hongdae.

Parking

2 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Posts saying you can park2 of 13 posts

Parking depends on when: info copied in two 2025 posts says no parking and a May 2026 post points to a paid lot nearby (4,000 won per 30 minutes), but two posts from September–October 2026 parked right beside or in front of the shop, about four spaces. We don't know how often they are free.

Getting inside

In a basementyes 0 · no 1 (of 13 posts read)
Toilet inside1 of 13 posts

No one says whether there is a step at the door or whether a wheelchair or stroller gets in — unknown, not absent. One post confirms it is on the ground floor; the building's elevator is mentioned only in posts about the escape room upstairs.

One post places the restroom at the very back of the room; no one says whether it is gender-separated or how big it is.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 18 posts we gathered, 5 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

2026-10-102 posts in one day

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Prices have gone up: the kimchi pork belly was 12,500 won a portion in July 2025 and January 2026 posts, 13,000 won in September–October 2026; the minari version went from 14,000 to 15,000 won. We don't know the month it changed.
  • Opening hours appear in seven posts, all copied from Naver or info blocks, and they changed: three 2025 posts say daily 15:00–24:00; four posts from January 2026 on say weekdays 15:00–24:00 and weekends 12:00–24:00. Only one post says there is no regular day off.
  • Service is split: one post found staff friendly, one found a male server unfriendly, and one called them gruff but kind underneath.
  • One September 2026 post, from a regular, says the taste had changed and they won't return, without saying how; other posts from the same period don't complain. This is a single dissenting post.
  • One post went by subway: about 8 minutes on foot from Hongik Univ. Station exit 9, 2 minutes from the university's main gate. Distances in other posts (300 m, 500 m) are copied.
  • Two phone numbers circulate: 02-332-2290 in five posts and 0507-1388-2310 in two. Naver booking and CatchTable are copied from listings; one post actually reserved.
  • Four posts from September–October 2026 share one template — repeating 'Hongdae restaurant' and praising attentive staff with no dish, price or seating detail; a similar March 2026 post makes five we did not count. One other post pasted the shop's own promotional copy, and we ignored that part.
