MENJi

멘지 홍대점 Menji Hongdae-jeom Menji is written 麵治, 'governing the noodle' — the house rolls its own fresh noodles for a chicken-bone (tori paitan) broth.

Compiled from 24 blog posts read in fullSources →

Menji Hongdae is a chicken-broth (tori paitan) ramen shop on the second floor of a building on Wausan-ro 29-gil, near exits 7 and 8 of Hongik Univ. Station. You pay at a kiosk first, then eat at a counter seat. Posts from around September 2026 list the basic tori paitan at 11,000 won and the signature bowl ringed with chashu at 16,000 won; earlier posts had 10,000 and 15,000 won. We read 30 posts from September 2025 to October 2026, set aside 2 that were about other branches (Sinchon, Mangwon), and 25 describe actually eating here.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Waits depend on timing: seven posts waited, six walked straight in. Recorded waits were 10, 15, 20 (a party of six) and 20–30 minutes. One writer arriving just after 6 pm found a line stretched down the stairs; another, arriving at 5 pm as the break ended, stood on the stairs in the heat. Those who walked in came at noon on a Friday, at weekday lunch, after the weekday lunch rush, before 6 pm on a weekend and at 12:30 on a weekend. One post notes there is no remote waitlist, so you wait at the door.
  2. Every seat is at a counter: eleven posts say so, with lines like 'no tables' and 'no seats facing each other'. One writer describes wall-facing and facing counters split by a decorative divider. Two posts put capacity at about 12, and four say the room is small. Three mention baskets under the stools for bags. Groups of four and six did eat here, though the party of six waited 20 minutes to sit together.
  3. Fourteen posts describe paying at the kiosk first and then being shown to a seat. Two mention a one-dish-per-person rule; one adds that this earns a free extra portion of noodles.
  4. Opinions on the spicy bowls split five to three: five found them hot, three said not very. Two writers compared the heat to Shin Ramyun — 'about the same' and 'slightly more'.

Getting inside

Second floor10 of 24 posts
Toilet inside1 of 24 posts

The shop is upstairs on the second floor; ten posts describe going up, four of them explicitly by stairs.

No one mentioned a step at the door, a lift, or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller — that means nobody wrote about it, not that none exists. Four posts describe climbing stairs to the second floor and none describe another way up.

One writer noted the toilet is right by the entrance, inside the shop. Two more posts list an indoor toilet in copied info blocks, which we didn't count. Separate men's and women's toilets appear only in one copied block.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 27 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Prices went up. Posts through August 2026 list tori paitan at 10,000 won, the chashu bowl at 15,000, the ramen-and-cutlet set at 15,900 and karaage at 4,500; posts from mid-September 2026 list 11,000, 16,000, 16,500 and 5,000. One 1 September post still had 15,000, and one post dated its visit March 2026 yet quoted 16,000, which doesn't fit. A meal now runs about 11,000–16,000 won for a bowl, around 16,500 for a set.
  • Eight posts give hours of 11:30–21:00 with a 15:30–17:00 break, the most common version, but all of them copied it from shop listings. Closing days disagree: eight say open every day, two August 2026 posts say closed Tuesdays, and one September 2025 post says closed Thursdays. One post each gives the break as 15:00–17:00 or 15:30–16:30. Check before you go.
  • Menji is a chain; one writer felt the taste showed its chain limits. Posts saying it began in Mangwon-dong or was bought by the operator of Bonjuk are repeating brand copy, so we didn't rely on them.
  • Five posts copy the phone number 0507-1360-3971. Only one copied block says no reservations, and no one wrote about calling ahead or booking.
