Kongbul Hongdae-jeom

콩불 홍대점 Kongbul is short for kongnamul bulgogi — soybean sprouts and thin-sliced marinated meat stir-fried together on a big iron pan; jeom means branch, so this is the Hongdae branch.

Compiled from 18 blog posts read in fullSources →

Kongbul Hongdae is a soybean-sprout bulgogi place on Eoulmadang-ro, the busking street near Exit 9 of Hongik University Station. The pan arrives heaped with sprouts and thin pork, gets stir-fried at the table, and the leftover sauce becomes fried rice. Four posts agree the two-person set (two portions, noodles, a Coolpis, two rice or fried rice) is 30,800 won; a single pork portion was written as 10,500 or 10,900 won. Most writers came back for a taste of their school days. We read 21 posts from February 2025 to October 2026; 20 describe an actual visit.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Every table has self-cooking instructions, yet 13 posts say staff did the stir-frying for them. Two of those thought it was because the place was quiet, and one, whose fried rice the owner made, added that it is really meant to be self-service. Two posts made their own fried rice.
  2. One main per person. Three posts mention it; one saw the rule on the ordering screen, and a party of three was not allowed to order two kongbul plus sides instead of three mains.
  3. Usually no wait. Five posts walked straight in, including the evening before Chuseok at 6:30 pm, Saturday at 5 pm and Saturday around 9 pm. One post waited on a weekday evening: there is no sign-up list; you sit on the chairs out front and the first in line are handed a spoon as a number tag.
  4. Four posts noticed many foreign customers; one said it was so on every visit, another thought nearby students still outnumbered tourists. One post also noted that most staff seemed to be foreigners who spoke fluent Korean.
3 more
  1. Five posts called it good value for central Hongdae; one disagreed, saying it used to be a bargain but no longer feels like one.
  2. Five posts found it spicy, one saying even the mild level had a kick; two found the medium or hot level milder than expected, and one said it was neither salty nor spicy. Spice is adjustable; two posts compared the regular level to Shin Ramyun.
  3. Seven posts went with friends, two with family (a sibling, a daughter), one with a husband — often as a stop during a day or night out in Hongdae.

Posts saying you cannot2 of 18 posts

No parking of its own. The two posts that drove used a nearby street-side public lot and the Megabox building across the street; one advised taking the bus or subway because spaces are hard to find even at night. Another chose public transport instead of driving.

Getting inside

Toilet insideyes 0 · no 2 (of 18 posts read)

The address says ground floor, but no post described the floor level or any stairs on the way in.

No post said whether there is a step at the entrance or whether a wheelchair or stroller gets in — not that it can't, only that nobody wrote about it. One post noted the tables are packed close together.

Two posts say the restroom is outside the restaurant. One post's info block says it is inside and gender-separated, but that looks copied from the listing, so we did not count it; nobody described the separation first-hand.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 19 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Fourteen posts list the hours as 24 hours, every day, three of them with a 15:00–15:05 break; most of this is copied from the listing, and no post describes a late-night visit. One May 2026 post gave 10:30–22:30 with last order at 21:50 instead.
  • The single-portion price is split: two posts from June and August 2026 say 10,900 won (21,800 for two), while two menu-copying posts from July and September and one other September post say 10,500 won. The dates don't line up cleanly, so we don't treat it as a price change.
  • Many posts copy that reservations and group seating (up to 30) are available, along with the phone number 0507-1410-3545, but no post actually booked by phone.
