Honggu Samgyeop

홍구삼겹 Samgyeop is short for samgyeopsal, pork belly; the posts never explain 'Honggu', and several point out that the house actually serves ogyeopsal, belly with the skin on.

A pork-grill house on Wausan-ro 29-gil, right outside Exit 7 of Hongik University Station by the Gyeongui Line Forest Park. There are only three cuts — skin-on belly, neck and a 'special cut' — and posts from November 2025 and May 2026 put belly and neck at 17,000 won a portion (16,000 won in December 2024). The meat is part-grilled in the kitchen and brought out on an iron plate, where staff finish it alongside kimchi, pickled deodeok and mushrooms. Several posts mention a sign on the wall telling you to dip the meat in a plum-and-pear sauce, coat it in perilla powder and wrap it in pickled soybean leaf. Soybean stew comes free. We read 30 posts from December 2024 to October 2026; 26 describe an actual visit.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. You don't grill. Of 26 visit posts, 18 say the meat arrived already part-grilled — one says '90% done' — and 13 say staff cooked kimchi on the plate, cut the meat or made the fried rice at the table. One writer noted their clothes barely smelled of smoke afterward.
  2. Ten posts say the staff or owner were kind — topping up sides unasked, explaining how to eat it to first-timers, handing out bags for coats on a cold day.
  3. Seven posts describe the walk from the station: the shop is in plain view from Exit 7 (AREX side), about five minutes from Exit 8 on Line 2.

There seems to be no parking of its own. One writer says you have to use the paid public lot nearby; the 'no parking' lines elsewhere are copied listing text.

Getting inside

In a basement10 of 26 posts
Toilet inside3 of 26 posts

The place has two parts: a street-level front room with round tables that opens up with folding doors, and an inner room half a level down. Ten posts describe the inner room as semi-basement; one counts three or four steps down. Several say the inner tables are roomier. Three posts mention sitting at the outside tables.

No one says whether there is a step at the entrance or whether a wheelchair or stroller can get in — we don't know either way. Note that the inner room is a few steps down.

Three posts say the toilet is inside, one placing it downstairs next to the kitchen. Nobody says whether it is split by gender.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 29 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • No post reports waiting. One writer arrived around six and was the first customer; another came just before six to beat the crowd. Nobody describes a weekend evening queue.
  • Hours are 5–11 pm in every post, but the day off changed: five posts through November 2025 say closed Sundays, while four from March 2026 say open daily, one adding 'no regular holiday'. Last order was 10:30 pm for one writer in November 2025; an October 2026 post copies 10 pm.
  • Only three posts give prices. Belly and neck rose from 16,000 won (December 2024) to 17,000 won (November 2025); the special cut from 14,000 to 15,000 won. For a whole meal, one May 2026 post says two people paid 45,000 won for one portion each of belly and neck plus fried rice and cold noodles.
  • Portions split opinion: two posts found the meat portions small, two found the fried rice generous — different dishes.
  • Two posts give the phone number 0507-1408-4640, one gives 02-322-4640. One writer saw staff setting up for a group booking; other 'reservations accepted' lines are copied text.
  • An October 2026 post says the owner told them the pickled soybean leaves will soon be dropped. No later post confirms it yet.
  • A cluster of polished posts titled along the lines of 'Hongdae Station meat restaurant' appeared between February and May 2026; only one discloses sponsorship, and a June 2025 post mentions an Instagram sponsorship. Claims like 'grade-1 Gangwon sow' and '100% domestic' are the shop's own wording, so we don't rely on them.
