HAKATANAKA
하카타나카 Hakatanaka Hakata is the old commercial heart of Fukuoka in Kyushu; several posts say the 'naka' comes from the founder's surname, Tanaka.

A Kyushu-style Japanese set-meal house on the second floor of 50 Wausan-ro 23-gil, a short walk from exit 9 of Hongik Univ. station. Every set comes on a one-person wooden tray with rice, soup and small sides: chicken nanban or karaage at 16,500 won, the stamina natto set at 14,800, miso eggplant at 17,800, and the Mr. Tanaka set (mackerel, cutlet simmered with egg, karaage, tonjiru) at 24,800 (2026 prices). Several posts tell you to swap the miso soup for tonjiru. We read 30 posts dated December 2025 to October 2026; 23 of them describe a visit.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- It works well alone. Of thirteen posts that describe the seating, many mention a long window counter of single seats; one couple says they always sit side by side there. There are also two- and four-person tables, and one group of five sat comfortably.
- The room is small and tables sit close. Six posts say so in so many words; one post found the spacing generous instead.
- Expect a wait at mealtimes and on weekends. Four posts say they queued: about 20 minutes standing outside at 1:30 on a holiday, about 10 minutes just before the lunch last order in February. Two got in straight away, at weekday lunch and at 2 pm on a weekend. The queue is walk-up only, and one writer warns that staff do not manage it closely, so you can lose your place if you hang back.
- Seven posts call the portions large. The Mr. Tanaka set is described as more than one person can finish, and a party of five could not get through five of them. Several posts say extra rice is free on request.
1 more
- Five posts say it is not cheap; one thought it good value for Hongdae. The Mr. Tanaka set was 22,800 won on an October 2025 visit and 24,800 won in posts from May 2026 on.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

The restaurant is upstairs. Thirteen posts say it is on the second floor, and one says you have to climb a flight of stairs. Some mention plastic food models at the building entrance.
One post says you climb stairs to the second floor; nobody wrote about wheelchairs, strollers, a step at the door or a lift. That means no one mentioned it, not that there is none.
One post puts the toilet by the entrance and another says it is unisex; nobody made clear whether it is inside the restaurant.
No one mentioned: In a basement · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 28 posts we gathered, 5 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- Seasoning splits opinion: three posts found it salty, two did not.
- Two posts found the staff friendly; one found them curt on that visit and wondered whether it was just a bad day.
- Three posts say it is a 3-to-10-minute walk from exit 9 of Hongik Univ. station; nobody described a bus route.
- Sixteen posts give the hours as 11:00-21:00 with a 16:00-17:00 break, last orders at 15:00 and 20:00, closed Wednesdays, mostly copied from map listings. One May 2026 post saw an in-store sign saying Tuesday instead, and another says it occasionally closes on other days, so check before you go.
- Five posts give the phone number as 02-332-3207. One post says from experience that reservations are not taken.
- Three posts from January and May 2026 repeat the same script, name meaning, 2013 opening, soft Japanese music, unobtrusive service, a Fukuoka head shop, without saying what they ate, so we did not count them as visits. The menu's claims about rice and eggs and the story of training in Fukuoka are the shop's own words, and we did not rely on them.
