Gogikkun Kim Chun-bae Hongdae Bonjeom

고기꾼김춘배 홍대본점 Gogikkun means a meat expert, a 'meat hand'; Kim Chun-bae is a personal name, so the sign reads 'Kim Chun-bae the meat man', and bonjeom marks this as the flagship of several branches.

Compiled from 24 blog posts read in fullSources →

Gogikkun Kim Chun-bae's Hongdae flagship is a charcoal grill house on the third and fourth floors of a building on Hongik-ro 3-gil, near exit 9 of Hongik University Station. Almost every post orders the same thing: the beef-and-pork set for two (150 g pork belly, 250 g pork rib meat, 200 g of the day's Korean beef, 118,000 won), plus kkakttukbap fried rice (8,000 won) and half-and-half naengmyeon (7,000 won), with staff grilling at the table. Many describe wood interiors and tables walled off by tall partitions. We read 30 posts from 24 May to 15 October 2026; 24 describe eating here. Five were about the Forest Road branch or other places and were set aside, and one is a neighbourhood ranking list. Nineteen of the 24 visits were posted between 1 and 14 October 2026.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Staff do the grilling. Twenty posts say an employee cooked the meat at the table, starting with the beef and stacking cut pieces at the edge of the grill. One post, from June 2026, grilled its own and guessed the service is offered when the room is quiet and dropped when it is busy. A sponsored post from May 2026 describes a single employee covering the whole floor.
  2. Eleven posts call the portions generous — the 600 g set is a lot for two, and the two-person kkakttukbap is bigger than expected.
  3. Five posts booked ahead; several found the table already set on arrival, and one booked through Naver and was seated right at the reserved time.
  4. Many posts repeat that corkage is free, mostly copied from the restaurant's notice; one actually brought its own bottles — two from home — and notes that drinks the restaurant sells cannot be brought in.

Getting inside

In a basementyes 0 · no 15 (of 24 posts read)
Toilet inside1 of 24 posts
Separate restrooms1 of 24 posts

It is up on the third floor. Fifteen posts describe going up to the third floor to eat, several by the stairway beside a ground-floor clothing shop; the restaurant is not visible from the street, so posts say to look for the sandwich board. The restaurant uses both the third and fourth floors.

We don't know about steps, wheelchair access or a lift. Several posts climbed the stairs, but none says whether there is an elevator — that means nobody mentioned it, not that there isn't one.

Toilets are unclear. One post says there are separate men's and women's toilets inside on the fourth floor; another says the fourth-floor toilet seems to be out of use most of the time. Nobody says which toilet third-floor diners use; the 'separate toilets' line in many posts is copied from the listing.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 25 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Five posts call the staff friendly; one disagrees — the fire was too hot, the chuck flap came out overdone and dry, and when the writer asked whether it was being overcooked the grill attendant said nothing.
  • The entrance door is low: four posts warn about it, telling readers to duck and mind their heads, and one writer bumped their forehead on the way out.
  • We don't know about waits. No post waited. One mentions a tablet waitlist at the door, and a sponsored post claims there is always a queue at peak times, but neither describes actually waiting.
  • Opening hours: of 18 posts that give them, 16 list the third floor as 12:00–23:00 (last order 22:00); the fourth floor opens 30 minutes later and closes 30 minutes earlier, 12:30–22:30 (last order 21:30). One post each gives 12:00–22:30 and 12:30–23:00. Nearly all of this is copied from the listing.
  • Prices: the set is 118,000 won in every post from May to October 2026; with kkakttukbap and naengmyeon, two people pay 133,000 won before drinks. Seven posts call it good value, mostly from the October run of identical orders.
  • Phone and booking: many posts give the same number, 0507-1432-3663, and say bookings go through Naver and CatchTable. No post booked by phone.
  • Much of this is promotion. Of the 24 visits, two disclose sponsorship or advertising, one says it was a review-programme meal, one says the writer paid, and twenty say nothing. Yet the 19 posts from 1–14 October nearly all order the same three items and repeat the same directions and parking text — exactly what a review-programme listing for the chain's Forest Road branch was offering at the time.
