Amazing Nongkhai

어메이징농카이 Eomeijing Nongkai Nong Khai is a city and province in Isan, Thailand's northeast on the Mekong; the menu carries a separate 'Esan food' section.

Compiled from 25 blog posts read in fullSources →

Amazing Nongkhai is a Thai restaurant on the ground floor of 156-11 Donggyo-ro, Mapo-gu, near exit 1 of Hongik University Station. It is registered as 'Banana Leaf Amazing Thailand Nong Khai', but every writer calls it Amazing Nongkhai. The menu is long, running from pu phat pong curry, pad thai, tom yam kung and som tam to Isan dishes, so most posts describe groups sharing several plates. Golden rich pu phat pong curry is 27,500 won; pad thai and tom yam kung are 15,000 won. On weekdays from 11:00 to 13:00 there is a cheaper lunch menu: pad thai 9,000 won, tom yam noodles 8,500 won, kaphrao rice 7,500 won. Rice is a separate order (2,000 won), and four posts mention it arrives shaped as a heart. We read 30 posts from February 2025 to October 2026; 27 describe an actual meal there.

Rows without a count: 7 of 13 posts.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Ten posts say the portions are large. A group of three found the 39,000-won Duri set 'plenty even for three', one writer said the large tom yam noodles were absurdly big, and another could not finish even one bowl of rice. One post disagreed: four people ordered six dishes and finished everything because the portions 'weren't that big'.
  2. Eight posts call the food salty — 'very salty and punchy', the kaphrao 'far too strongly seasoned', the crispy-pork basil 'a bit salty, so order rice'. Ordering extra rice comes up again and again. The one post that mentions a high chair adds that the food is too salty for a 32-month-old.
  3. Nine posts mention heat, but spice level is selectable. One writer found the hot kaphrao too hot and switched to mild next time; another ordered the crispy-pork basil 'less spicy' and found it so mild she poured sauce on it. The crab curry was described as not spicy at all.
  4. You order on a tablet at the table — six posts from June 2026 onward say so. It used to be a paper menu: a regular of five or six visits wrote that a kiosk had appeared while she was away, and missed the old menu with over 200 items. The couple and family sets appear to date from the same period. We only know the switch happened sometime between February 2025 and June 2026.

  1. Waiting varies. One post describes a queue: arriving at 11:22 on a Saturday, there was already a line, though they got in as soon as the doors opened at 11:30. Four posts walked straight in, including a weekday at 11:45 and a Saturday lunch. Four more warn that weekends and the weekday 12–1 office-lunch rush can mean a wait; one couple sat down at 12:30 on a Saturday and found it full when they left.
  2. Six posts describe the room as large — one says the hall is very big with comfortable spacing, another that there is a second seating area to the left. One post disagrees: reasonably big, but the tables are close together.
  3. Seven posts call the prices low or fair — the lunch menu is 'really cheap', 9,000-won pad thai is good value for the size, two lunches came to under 20,000 won. One writer, paying 9,000 won for beef noodles and 15,000 for pad thai, asked readers to overlook the prices given the neighbourhood.
  4. Two posts saw celebrity photos and autographs by the counter, including GOT7's Yugyeom and BamBam. Claims that BamBam endorses the place, that it appeared on TV food shows, or that it holds Thai Select certification are the restaurant's own signage, and we do not count them.

5 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Posts saying you can park5 of 25 posts

Five posts say you can park in front, and of the four that give a number, three say three cars and one 'maybe two or three'. Three of them therefore suggest walking or taking transit. Other mentions of '3 parking spaces' are copied from the Naver listing.

Getting inside

In a basementyes 0 · no 2 (of 25 posts read)
Toilet inside2 of 25 posts

No one wrote about a step at the entrance, a ramp or a lift — that means we don't know, not that there are none. On strollers, one post only says entry 'looks impossible, but check'. Two posts note the restaurant is on the ground floor, and the stroller post mentions one high chair.

Two posts say the toilet is inside the restaurant; one adds that it was clean. Separate men's and women's toilets appear only in one post's copied listing, not in anyone's own account.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 28 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Three posts say it's walkable from exit 1 of Hongik University Station, but estimates range from about five to ten minutes. One writer says it is tucked into an alley and you'll want a map; another says it sits on the main road and is easy to find.
  • Thirteen posts list opening hours. The most common version is Mon–Thu 11:00–20:30, Fri–Sun 11:30–21:00, break 15:20–17:00, last orders 19:45 / 20:15. One post gives daily 11:30–20:50 with a 15:00–17:00 break; another has Mon–Thu opening at 11:30. Closing days disagree more: Wednesday in two posts (August 2026), open every day in one copied listing, Monday and Tuesday in one February 2025 post, and two days after major holidays in another. One writer claimed it opens only Friday to Sunday, which no one else says. Check before you go.
  • Only a few posts give prices for any one dish. Tom yam noodles appear at 8,500 won (weekday lunch, pork), 11,000 won (shrimp, February 2025) and 15,000 won (one September 2026 post); because the protein and lunch status differ, we don't read this as a price rise. Coriander is 2,000 won extra, and one post mentions a takeaway charge of about 1,000 won. One writer ordered a single rice, was brought two, and found both charged on the receipt.
  • Six posts give the phone number as 0507-1498-0567. No one wrote about whether you can book — that is unknown, not a no. The note about group seating for 5 to 14 is copied from the listing.
