BATTERY88
배터리88 Baeteori 88 Battery 88: 'battery' as in a phone battery (one visitor found chargers and power banks for guests), and '88' for the 1988 retro look of the rooms.

Battery88 is a large bar that fills an entire building on Wausan-ro 19-gil, between Hongdae's club street and KT&G Sangsang Madang, from the ground floor up to the roof. It serves Korean drinking food (chicken galbi, kimchi stew, spicy pork) mostly in the 10,000s of won (fried Spam 12,900, beef hot pot 17,900) and imported draft beer at 5,000 won. Its listed hours are 5 pm to 5 am. We read 30 posts dated August 2025 to October 2026. We set aside 14 that had nothing to do with the bar (quiz answers, a waxing salon, English tutoring). Of the 16 about this bar, 13 describe an actual visit (May to October 2026). Nine of those went with friends, one with a younger sibling, and one on a date.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- Nearly every post says it's big. Eleven of the 13 visits called the space large. One said tables weren't crammed together (71004); another group of four walked in at 10 pm on a Saturday and still found a seat because there are so many tables across three floors (71008). It isn't quiet: two posts said it's loud and lively rather than a place for a calm drink. Almost every post repeats the '300 seats' figure, but that comes from the bar, so we didn't count it.
- People found it cheap. Of the 9 posts that talked about prices, 6 said they were low and none said high. One noted soju at 4,000 won (71019), another that even the stews are mostly under 20,000 won (71007), and a third that the prices took her back to her college days (71017). One table of four wrote that four dishes and six bottles of soju came to 80,600 won (71008).
- Each floor seats you differently. The ground floor has street-side terrace seating, the second floor has big windows, and the third is a rooftop. Four posts described the second floor, four the terrace, and four went up to the roof. The roof isn't always open to you: one visitor found it booked by another party (71019), another was rained off (70999), and a May 2026 post said it didn't seem to have opened for the season yet.
- Beer is a big part of the draw. Eight visiting posts drank draft beer, and three said imported drafts (Blanc, Stella, Hoegaarden, Budweiser) are 5,000 won. One remarked on the generous head on a Hoegaarden (71010). In keeping with the name, one post found phone chargers and large power banks for guests (70993), and another had baseball on the screens (71007).

- The food leans spicy. Of 7 posts that described flavor, 5 called it spicy. The cheese galbi was moderately hot, the clam soup sharply so from bird's-eye chili, and the pork smoky and spicy, which is why several tables ordered corn cheese or sorbet alongside. One post noted the cooks were older women, not student part-timers (70993); another said the ground-floor kitchen is open to view (71019).

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.
Getting inside
| Second floor | 4 of 13 posts |
|---|---|
| In a basement | yes 0 · no 4 (of 13 posts read) |
| Step at the entrance | 1 of 13 posts |
| Toilet inside | 4 of 13 posts |
| Separate restrooms | 1 of 13 posts |
No post says anyone went in with a wheelchair or stroller. That doesn't mean you can't, only that nobody wrote about it. One post describes rounding a corner and climbing stairs to get in (71007); another says there is also a direct way into the ground-floor terrace (71010). Nobody mentioned an elevator, and the upper floors read as stairs-only.
The restrooms are inside. Four posts said so: one by the entrance and another on the second floor (71019), one each on floors one and two but none on the roof (71006). One post noted separate men's and women's rooms (70993), and two said they were clean.
No one mentioned: Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 16 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- No visitor wrote about arriving by subway or bus. Lines like '5-7 minutes from Sangsu Station exit 2' or '10 minutes from Hongik Univ. exit 9' are copied info blocks, so we didn't rely on them. One visitor rode a city bike home afterward.
- No post reports waiting. One group found the ground-floor terrace almost full at 10 pm on a Saturday but still got a window seat (71008); another said it was relaxed at 7 pm and crowded by 8 (71007); a third found it quiet at the 5 pm opening (71006). One post had heard that queues are normal (71017), but that's hearsay, so we didn't count it.
- All 10 visiting posts that list hours give the same daily 5 pm to 5 am, but every one is a pasted listing, not an observation. Only one info post mentions days off, saying the bar opens every day of the year.
- Some posts list different prices for the same dish: the spicy cheese galbi at 15,900 won twice and 16,900 once (all Sept-Oct 2026), corn cheese at 8,900 and 8,000, and spicy pork at 15,500 and 14,500. We can't tell which is current.
- Two phone numbers appear: 0507-1487-0883 in five posts and 02-337-0881 in two. Reservations show up only in copied 'Naver booking available' lines. No visitor booked themselves, though one found the rooftop reserved by another group (71019).
- Eleven visiting posts from Sept-Oct 2026 repeat the same phrases ('300 seats', 'Hongdae group bar', 'Hongdae rooftop bar') in the same order. Only two say they were sponsored (71004, 71006), but the rest look like the same campaign. The 'big' and 'cheap' observations also show up in a May 2026 post from outside that cluster (71017).
