VETE KATTEN

베테카텐 Betekaten Vete katten is Swedish — vete is wheat and katten is 'the cat' — and the house's own reading, passed on by several posts, is 'even the cat knows this taste', which is why black cats are drawn around the room.

Compiled from 29 blog posts read in fullSources →

Vete Katten is an Italian restaurant on the ground floor of a Samcheong-dong side street near Cheong Wa Dae in Jongno, Seoul. Pastas run 23,000–28,000 won and pizzas and risottos 29,000; many pairs ordered one pasta and one pizza to share. You order by writing on a paper slip, and two free starters arrive before the mains. The most-ordered dish was the Classica pizza (10 posts), followed by gnocchi and the sea-bream saffron risotto (6 each). We read 30 posts dated May to October 2026, 29 of them from actual visits. Most posts since August 2026 repeat the same hashtags and the same parking blurb; three say they were sponsored.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. Almost everyone wrote about the two things that come before the mains: 28 of 29 visit posts describe a bite of baguette with potato salad and balsamic, then warm bread. The bread comes in a paper bag with tongs inside. One writer was too full and took the bag home; several saved bread to mop up pasta sauce.
  2. Heat shows up more than you might expect. 16 posts said something they ate was spicy, and five of them said even the free potato-salad starter had a kick. A family with children skipped the spicy dishes and wrote that the starter was spicy enough that staff brought three for the adults only. Pork-jowl oil pasta, seafood tomato, basil pesto and the Trevia pizza were the ones most often called spicy; other posts described the same starter as tangy or mild.
  3. No one complained of slow food; five posts said dishes came quickly, one writer adding they didn't get to finish the bread before the mains arrived.
  4. Twelve posts said the tables are well spaced and thirteen mentioned big windows letting in daylight. One writer counted about seven four-tops plus a 14-seat long table, and several pointed to the long wooden table in the middle for groups. One said the place looks small from outside but is roomy inside. Three noted a high ceiling.
2 more
  1. No tablet or kiosk — five posts describe writing your order on a paper slip for staff to collect; one writer found it a pleasant change from kiosks.
  2. Dogs welcome is the house's own headline; four posts back it with experience. Three brought their own dogs (two with parents, an 18 kg dog, an in-law's dog) and one saw other diners eating with dogs. The 18 kg dog's owner said there was a wide corner by the window for the dog to lie down, and staff brought a fan on a hot day.

Parking

2 posts say you can park; 2 say you cannot. We leave the disagreement standing rather than picking a side.

Posts saying you can park2 of 29 posts
Posts saying you cannot2 of 29 posts

Parking reports split. Two drivers managed — one parked out front, one used the MMCA museum garage and got cash toward the fee — while two said there's no lot of its own and recommended coming on foot. A fifth was told they could park in front but used a public lot because it was busy. The '1–2 spaces out front' and '4,000 won off over 40,000' lines are copied blurbs, and some posts warn of camera enforcement nearby.

Getting inside

In a basementyes 0 · no 1 (of 29 posts read)
Toilet inside6 of 29 posts

Only one post mentions the floor from experience — ground level. We don't count the '1F' in the address.

We don't know whether there's a step at the door — not that there isn't one, just that no one said. One family pushed a stroller about 20 minutes from Anguk Station up a gentle slope, but didn't describe getting through the door.

Six posts say the toilet is inside the restaurant; one places it left of the entrance by the till, and two noted spare sanitary pads stocked there.

We don't know whether toilets are separated by gender; 'unisex' appears only in one post's copied info block, which we don't count.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 30 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • No post mentions waiting for a table — which isn't the same as there being no wait. Two went at 11 a.m. on a weekend and one arrived late enough to be the last diners. Two said they had booked.
  • Four posts arrived by public transport, all walking 15–20 minutes from Anguk Station. Bus directions copied into other posts weren't counted.
  • Corkage terms are all copied and disagree: free on weekdays with 30,000 won a bottle on weekends, free on weekends too until November, or free any day with a booking. No post says the writer actually brought wine.
  • Opening hours disagree. Of 26 posts that list them, 10 say 11:00–20:00, 9 say 10:00–22:00 and 6 say 11:00–22:00; one writer read 'OPEN 11:00, CLOSE 9pm' on the sign at the door. The versions don't split cleanly by date. Nineteen say closed Mondays, one says no closing day, four just say 'daily'. One post backs the no-break-time claim by eating at 2:30 p.m.
  • No post judged the prices high or low. Per a September 2026 menu copied into one post: pastas 23,000–28,000 won, pizzas and risottos 29,000, salads 25,000–45,000, flat-iron steak 65,000, glass of wine 15,000. A pasta and a pizza for two comes to roughly 54,000–58,000 won. The anchovy pasta is listed at both 23,000 and 25,000.
  • Sixteen posts give the phone number 0507-1487-1478, and many relay that bookings are taken by Naver and by phone. One family said that mentioning children when booking got them the largest table.
  • Most posts since August 2026 share the same hashtags, the same intro line about chef Seo Chang-seok, and the same parking blurb; only three disclose sponsorship. We treat those lines, along with the dog, kids and corkage notices, as copied text and don't count them.
