Monggalbi

몽갈비 Galbi means ribs; the wooden sign at the door spells the name in Chinese characters as 夢加非, whose first character means 'dream'.

Compiled from 29 blog posts read in fullSources →

Monggalbi is a charcoal rib house in a side street off Nonhyeon-ro 149-gil in Gangnam, near the Gangnam Eulji Hospital junction. Its headline dishes now are the 'LA ttung-galbi' (thick-cut marinated beef short ribs, 50,000 won for 500 g, 26,000 won for 240 g) and pork rib strips in salt, soy, marinated or spicy versions (19,000 won per 300 g). The meat arrives par-grilled from the kitchen and you finish it for a few minutes on a charcoal brazier set into a stone table. We read 30 posts dated 16 June to 28 October 2026; 29 describe actually eating there, and 23 of the 30 fall between 10 and 28 October. The June posts centred on the pork ribs, and at that time the LA galbi was 20,000 won for 200 g.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. A pot of spicy soft-tofu stew comes free. Of the 29 visit posts, 27 say it arrived as a standard or complimentary dish, in June and October alike. It comes in its earthenware pot, and several posts mention clams or egg in it. Two posts note that only the first pot per table is free; another costs 6,000 won.
  2. The meat comes out par-grilled; 26 posts say so. A wall sign says it is about 80% cooked and that the LA ribs are best medium, and posts describe two to five more minutes over the coals. No post clearly says staff grilled at the table for them; one says a staff member came over and showed them to push the bones to the edge of the grill and cook just the meat in the middle.
  3. Thickness is what people talk about most with the LA ribs: 20 posts call them thick, and the word 'steak' keeps coming up. One post counted three big pieces in a 500 g order, another about eight ribs. Twelve posts say the meat was juicy.
  4. Write a receipt review and you get the kimchi-cheese rice (normally 8,000 won) free; 13 posts say they got it that way. It is kimchi fried rice under cheese, corn and bacon, and posts keep mentioning the crust at the bottom of the pot.

  1. Fourteen posts say the room is roomy: tables well spaced, group seating, partitions that come out so a party can sit in one long row. One post differed, calling it 'cosy, mostly four-seat tables'. Nine posts say they ordered on a tablet at the table.

Getting inside

Toilet insideyes 0 · no 1 (of 29 posts read)

No post describes from experience what floor the restaurant is on or whether there are steps at the entrance; the 'ground floor' in the address is the registered listing, not something anyone reported.

Nobody wrote about a step at the door or getting in with a wheelchair or pushchair. That means we don't know, not that it is fine. One post puts the toilet outside and a floor up, so call ahead.

One post says the toilet is outside the restaurant, up a floor, opened with a code posted inside. Another says only that it is half a floor up. Separate men's and women's toilets appear only in a copied list of amenities, so we did not count it.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 30 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Opinions on sweetness split: 11 posts call the marinade sweet, 6 say it is not overly sweet. Three say it is not salty. Three posts found the spicy or marinated pork ribs hot; one said the marinated ribs were not really spicy.
  • It is roughly a ten-minute walk from the subway. Two posts went by public transport: one walked about eight minutes from Hakdong Station exit 7, one took a bus. Another said it is not right by the station and takes a bit of walking, and one took a five-minute taxi from Nonhyeon Station. The often-quoted '768 m from Sinsa exit 1' is copied listing data.
  • No post mentions waiting. Seven posts booked ahead, and two say a name card was set on the reserved table. One post found half the room full of a group even early on a Sunday evening. That is silence on waiting, not proof there is none.
  • Opening hours: 24 posts agree on 17:00 to 23:00 daily, last order 22:00, but nearly all copy the same listing. No post mentions a closing day. One post quoting a review-campaign notice said 17:00 to 22:00.
  • Prices: almost every post gives 50,000 won for 500 g of LA ribs; one wrote 54,000 won. One pair paid 98,000 won for 500 g of LA ribs, two portions of marinated pork ribs and two bottles of soju. Soju and beer are mostly reported at 5,000 won; one post had beer at 6,000 won. Two posts said it was not expensive.
  • October 2026 posts give the phone number as 0507-1389-0314; two June posts gave 0507-1444-0642 and 070-4277-0314. Several posts copy that bookings can be made through Naver.
  • The menu in June posts differs from October's. In June 2026 there was LA galbi at 20,000 won for 200 g, a mala pork rib, braised aged-kimchi and intestine ribs, and naengmyeon. From July the posts show the 500 g and 240 g LA ttung-galbi and jjolmyeon instead. The side dishes also moved from white or water kimchi in June and July to green-onion kimchi in October. Flying-fish-roe rice balls were 6,000 won in one July post and 5,000 won in three October posts.
  • The 23 posts from 10 to 28 October share a template: the same hashtag block and the same order (info box, side dishes, tofu stew, LA ribs, review-event cheese rice). One discloses sponsorship, two were invited or part of a reviewer campaign, and one still has a pasted review-count widget. The rest may be commissioned too, so read the praise with care; we relied only on concrete details like prices, par-grilling and the free stew.
