Mangecheu
만게츠 Mangetsu is Japanese for a full moon; posts note the sign beside the name spells it out as 'a moon filled full'.

Mangetsu is an izakaya in a basement on Toegye-ro 18-gil, a minute or two on foot from exit 3 of Myeongdong station. It serves hotpots, skewers, fried dishes and fried noodles with draft beer, sours, highballs and sake. In posts from August 2026 on, the beef tantan nabe and beef tendon nabe are 32,000 won and a 7-piece skewer plate 28,000 won; autumn 2025 posts list the tantan nabe at 27,000 won and the skewers at 25,000 won. You order from a tablet at each table, and free snacks arrive once you do. We read 30 posts dated 29 August 2025 to 1 October 2026; after setting aside 6 about Nagahama Mangetsu, an unrelated ramen shop in Busan, 24 are about this place and 22 describe an actual visit.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- Portion size is the most repeated remark. Fifteen posts said the portions were large and one disagreed (September 2025, about the 7-piece skewer plate). Of the tantan nabe, one wrote that the beef was piled so high you couldn't see the pot, another that two people with an extra dish still left some. Several mention being handed a spare bowl because the hotpot can boil over, and one advised bringing at least three people if you order two dishes.
- Free snacks come once you order. Fifteen posts describe them, most as tteokbokki with fish cake plus shrimp crackers, and several say they had never had an izakaya serve tteokbokki as a freebie. Posts from 6–7 August 2026, however, describe pickled cucumber with shrimp crackers instead, and posts from 23 August on are back to tteokbokki. We can't tell from the posts whether it varies day to day or changed briefly.
- Sixteen posts put it one to three minutes' walk from exit 3 of Myeongdong station, down the alley by the 7-Eleven near the Pacific Hotel. One notes it sits across from the main Myeongdong shopping streets, so the street outside is quiet.
- Five posts said it was quiet enough to talk, one citing wide spacing between tables. One post disagreed: in December 2025 it found the room livelier than expected with after-work crowds, and warned anyone expecting a quiet bar.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside
| In a basement | 15 of 22 posts |

| Toilet inside | 3 of 22 posts |
| Separate restrooms | yes 0 · no 2 (of 22 posts read) |
It is one floor below street level. Fifteen posts mention going down to the basement, usually adding that it did not feel stuffy — no musty smell, a high ceiling, plenty of room. Several describe Japanese posters lining both walls of the staircase.
No post mentions a step at the door, wheelchairs, strollers or a lift. Several say you go down stairs to the basement, and one warns to watch your footing. Nobody says whether there is any step-free way in — we don't know, which is not the same as saying there isn't one.
Three posts say the toilet is inside the restaurant; one describes it as small but tidy.
Two posts say the toilet is shared by men and women.
No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 24 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- Waiting is mixed. A November 2025 post says a queue formed after they were seated, and an August 2026 post that arrived early in the evening thought ten minutes later would have meant waiting. A Friday 6:30 pm visit found it full by the time they left; a weekend 6:30 pm visit found two tables free. No post gives enough to confirm whether reservations are taken.
- Thirteen posts give opening hours, all copied from the listing. They agree on 5 pm to 1 am on weekdays and closed on Sundays; for Saturday, nine say it closes at midnight while three lump it in as Mon–Sat until 1 am. One lists Saturday as 5 pm to 12 'noon', which looks like a typo. If you're going late on a Saturday, check first.
- For what a meal costs: two people with two dishes and three sours paid 77,000 won in September 2025, and four women on an after-work outing paid 120,000 won, half food and half drinks. Three posts call the prices reasonable; three are mixed, typically finding the food fair but the drinks steep. Prices rose between the autumn 2025 posts and those from August 2026 on — tantan nabe from 27,000 to 32,000 won, the 7-piece skewers from 25,000 to 28,000 won. The red-crab pasta (22,000 won) in 2025 posts is missing from a menu transcribed in August 2026, which lists an abalone pasta at 35,000 won instead.
- Several posts give the same phone number, 02-3789-5685. One suggests calling ahead for groups, but no post describes actually making a reservation.
- A cluster of visit posts appeared between 6 August and 3 September 2026, repeating the same hashtags and stock phrases about 'newly launched dishes and drinks'. One discloses sponsorship and one a reviewer meal voucher; the rest say nothing either way. One calls the place newly opened, but there are visits from August 2025, so it isn't. Within this cluster, one post calls the room cosy and small while others call it spacious.
