Donghwa Gook Seoullyeok-jeom
동화고옥 서울역점 Gook (고옥) is a word for an old house; no post explains Donghwa (동화), though one quotes the restaurant's slogan, 'Bloom in the Palace'.
Compiled from 24 blog posts read in fullSources →
Donghwa Gook's Seoul Station branch is a Korean galbi-course restaurant on the basement floor of Seoul Square, across from Seoul Station. The centrepiece is its marinated short rib, served in courses at 79,000 won (lunch-only Hyangyeon), 99,000 (Geumran), 129,000 (Yeongbin) and 159,000 (Sura) per person, eaten in private rooms or the main hall. People mostly book it for engagement meetings and parents' birthdays. À la carte there is Hanwoo gomtang at 18,000 won and three noodle dishes at 16,000. We read 30 posts dated May to October 2026. Two were about other restaurants (Seoul Loin in the same building, and the Busan branch) and were set aside, and four only repeated listing information. That leaves 24 posts from people who actually went.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.
What sets it apart
- Engagement bookings run on a clock. All three self-paid engagement posts from June 2026 give a 90-minute limit, and one adds that you may enter ten minutes before your slot. One says the dessert came late and staff allowed five extra minutes. Another describes long pauses waiting for the next dish, then everything arriving at once near the end to fit the time.
- The private rooms are why people choose it: 18 of the 24 visit posts mention them. All three engagement posts describe the setup — mandarin-duck figures and a topper on the table, and the couple's names printed at the top of the menu card. One post before Chuseok found every room booked and ate in the hall.
- You don't grill at the table. Six posts say the galbi arrives medium or medium-rare on a hot stone to finish as you like, and two say it comes fully cooked from the kitchen. Accounts differ on how it is served: one engagement post says it came on one large shared platter, awkward among people meeting for the first time, while another says the parents liked that every dish was plated individually.
- You can reach it without stepping outside. Fourteen posts note it is on the basement floor, and ten say it was easy by public transport. Exits 9 and 9-1 of Seoul Station lead straight into Seoul Square's basement; one writer never opened an umbrella in the rain. One engagement post says parents arriving by train from Chuncheon came the whole way indoors. Two posts add some warning: one says to look for a rather dark mall entrance by exit 9, and another that you may pass homeless people in the underpass.

- Most say the courses are filling. Five posts say there was a lot of food, from 'I thought I would burst' to 'more than enough'. One says the starters and yukhoe were small, and another that each plate was small but it added up. Two engagement posts say the mothers were full by the time the galbi and rice arrived.
- You can bring wine: three posts did. In one, staff checked the bottle and brought glasses and an opener. An engagement post says a corkage-free coupon came with the room booking. The detailed terms (first bottle free, 20,000 won for each extra) are copied from the listing.

Parking

Three posts drove and parked in the Seoul Square garage. One got two hours free, and one says to avoid the valet-only levels. The free-time rules (one hour on weekdays before 6 pm, two hours after that and at weekends) are mostly copied from the listing. The copied blocks disagree on the height limit (1.8 m or 2.5 m), and one says only 'first 60 minutes free'.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside
| In a basement | 14 of 24 posts |

We don't know whether a wheelchair or stroller can get in. No visitor wrote about it, and 'wheelchair accessible' appears only in two copied listing blocks. The posts that describe the route mention escalators down from the lobby, and one took a lift from the parking level to the ground floor before switching to an escalator. Nobody said whether a lift reaches the basement floor or whether there is a step at the door.
We don't know whether the toilets are inside the restaurant or shared with the building. No visitor wrote about them. 'Separate men's and women's toilets' appears only in copied listing text.
No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 28 posts we gathered, 4 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- Promotional posts make up much of what we read. From late August to October 2026, many posts repeat the same keywords — Seoul Station restaurant, engagement meeting, private rooms, team dinner — and list the courses in an identical order. Three disclose sponsorship, only the three June engagement posts say they paid themselves, and the other 18 say nothing either way.
- No post describes queuing. That doesn't mean there is never a wait — nearly everyone had booked. Posts say the rooms fill early on weekend evenings and before holidays. Accounts of the waiting area differ: one calls the waiting seats tidy, another says the space is small and you can only enter at your slot, so arrive on time.
- All opening hours come from copied listing blocks. They agree on 11:30 to 22:00 with last orders at 21:00. Three posts split the afternoon break into 15:00–17:00 on weekdays and 15:00–17:30 at weekends. One block alone gives the Saturday break as 16:00–17:00, and one post says the restaurant is open every day of the year.
- Prices did not change between May and October. Five posts call the courses expensive and one says they were not too high for Seoul. Posts that had the Yeongbin course for two paid 258,000 won. One post gives the same figure for two Sura courses, but Sura is 159,000 won each, so it was almost certainly Yeongbin. Discounts such as 30% off for pregnant guests or 10,000 won for a review are the restaurant's own promotions, copied by bloggers.
- Many posts list the same phone number, 0507-1415-8344, but we have not called it. Posts say you can book through Naver, CatchTable or by phone, and two engagement posts say a reminder text arrives the day before.
- Pacing varies by account. Two self-paid engagement posts discussed it: one had silent gaps waiting for dishes and then a rush at the end, the other says only the dessert was a little late. Other posts either describe a smooth flow or don't mention pacing.
