Korean

GRUK

그륵 명동 Geureuk Myeongdong Geureuk is a colloquial, dialect form of geureut, 'bowl' or 'dish' — one writer punned that the octopus bibimbap alone made 'one bowlful'.

A Korean set-meal and braise restaurant on the second floor of an office building at 55 Namdaemun-ro, Myeongdong, across from the Bank of Korea Money Museum. Set meals such as perilla-oil buckwheat noodles, grilled mackerel or kimchi stew are 16,000 won, the beef short-rib set 22,000–23,000 won; 15 of the 29 visits ordered the two-person 'Daily Hansang' (46,000 won: two set meals plus a zucchini-potato pancake). You order on a tablet at the table and refill side dishes from a self-serve bar. We read 30 posts dated July 29 to October 3, 2026; 29 describe an actual visit. Most were published in August–September 2026 with the same promotional phrasing, so read them with that in mind.

Rows without a count: 18 of 21 posts.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. The window seats come up more than anything else: 18 posts describe floor-to-ceiling windows facing the old Bank of Korea building or Shinsegae's giant screen, and one booked ahead specifically for a screen-facing seat. One post moved inward because the window looked glaring.
  2. Side dishes are refillable: 10 posts topped up from the self-serve bar or got more seaweed soup. The soup comes from staff rather than the bar — one post notes a 'seaweed soup refill' button on the tablet's call menu.
  3. Six posts ordered from a tablet at the table; several also mention a large menu board outside the entrance.
  4. No one called the food salty; 7 posts said the seasoning is restrained, one noting it suited both a light-eating writer and a saltier-palated partner. One post found a slight sweetness running through everything.
3 more
  1. Heat is split: 5 posts found the spicy pork ribs or octopus bibimbap mild (one says milder than Shin Ramyun), 3 found the spicy pork stir-fry, octopus bibimbap or flame-seared octopus genuinely hot.
  2. Twelve posts describe the zucchini-potato or kimchi pancake as crisp; one found the kimchi pancake soft.
  3. Most who mention price find it reasonable: 4 call it cheap for Myeongdong, one that it's hardly pricier than the old-school places nearby. One found it expensive for what it was, and one said set meals are cheap but the intestine tteokbokki is steep.

Getting inside

In a basementyes 0 · no 4 (of 28 posts read)
Lift to the floor4 of 28 posts

The restaurant is on the building's second floor; 4 posts took the elevator up, and one warns that some elevators skip the second floor.

We don't know about steps or wheelchair and stroller access — no one described it; one post merely copied the listing's 'wheelchair accessible' line.

We don't know whether the restroom is inside the restaurant or shared with the building. One post praised it as very clean, crediting the office building, but didn't say where; separate men's and women's restrooms appear only in copied listing info.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 29 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • More than twenty posts repeat, in nearly the same words, that lunch has a queue and booking is essential — yet none actually waited. Four say they walked straight in (weekday 1 pm, Saturday 7 pm, a quiet lunch, a weekday evening); seven booked. We don't know how long a lunch wait really is.
  • Most of these posts are commissioned: the line about being clean and cool amid Myeongdong's old eateries and the same hashtags recur in order, two posts disclose sponsorship and one a hosted visit. We didn't count that stock phrasing, and dropped one post that never says what was eaten.
  • Opening hours are all copied, but 23 posts agree: weekdays 11:00–21:30 with a 15:00–17:00 break and last order at 21:00; weekends 11:00–20:30, no break, last order 20:00. No one mentions a closing day — that means unknown, not none.
  • Prices vary slightly: the beef short-rib set is 22,000 won in three posts and 23,000 in two, the daily set 46,000 in three and 47,000 in one. Posts from the same day disagree, so we can't tell a price rise from a typo.
  • Most posts give the phone number as 0507-1353-2052; one lists 0507-1356-8899. Reservations were made through Naver Booking or CatchTable.
