Jungang Galchi Sikdang

중앙갈치식당 Jungang means 'central', and galchi is hairtail (cutlassfish), the fish this house braises and grills in Namdaemun Market's hairtail alley.

Compiled from 2 blog posts read in fullSources →

A braised-hairtail and grilled-fish house inside the hairtail alley of Namdaemun Market; every post calls it Jungang Galchi Sikdang. You order the braise and the grilled fish platter by the single portion and eat them with rice; the two visits put a portion at 12,000 and 14,000 won. We read 6 posts dated 16 September to 15 October 2026. One was about another restaurant and was set aside, and only 2 describe an actual visit; the other three are compilations of tourist-board information and market route lists.

What sets it apart

  1. You can order for one. One visit noted that every dish can be ordered as a single portion; two people ordered one braise and one grilled platter.
  2. Food comes out at once. One visit described fish piled up and grilled in advance outside the shop, so the order arrived the instant they sat down — though the grilled hairtail served with the braise was dry for the same reason.
  3. One visit says the shop takes Onnuri market vouchers and Seoul Pay; the other says paying with digital Onnuri gets you a discount here.

Getting inside

Second floor1 of 2 posts

One visit says the restaurant has a main building and an annex, and they were seated on the annex's second floor. Nobody described the ground floor or the main building. The registered address (22-10) differs by one number from the one the posts give (22-12).

We don't know whether there is a step at the door or whether a wheelchair or stroller can get in — not because there isn't, but because nobody wrote about it. No post says whether the second floor is reached by stairs or a lift.

Nobody mentioned the toilets, so we don't know whether they are inside or separated by sex.

No one mentioned: In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 5 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Prices disagree. A September visit paid 12,000 won each for the braise and the grilled platter; a visit on 9 October says 14,000 won per person, as do two posts copying tourist-board listings. We cannot tell whether the price went up or one post is wrong.
  • Only one visit mentions waiting: about 10 minutes at 3:20 on a Saturday afternoon, well past lunch. Nobody recorded the wait on weekdays or at lunchtime.
  • One visit came by Line 4 from Seoul Station to Hoehyeon Station exit 5 and walked in, noting that exit 5 has no lift, only stairs. No post came by bus.
  • Both visits only say 'we', so we don't know who people came with; nobody wrote about coming alone or in a large group.
  • Only one visit lists opening hours — 10:00 to 21:00, closed every other Sunday and on holidays — and that is copied listing data. With no two posts agreeing, we have not confirmed the hours.
  • Only one compiled post gives a phone number, 02-752-2892, copied from listings. Nobody confirmed whether the restaurant takes reservations.
