Hoho Sikdang
호호식당 Hoho is the Korean sound of a soft laugh, and sikdang simply means eatery.
Compiled from 17 blog posts read in fullSources →
Hoho Sikdang Daehak-ro serves Japanese home cooking inside a hanok down an alley off Hyehwa Station, at Daehak-ro 9-gil 35. Through the gate, tables sit around a square courtyard, and the menu is cutlets, rice bowls and pastas served on trays with rice, miso soup and pickles. On the menu photographed in July and August 2026, a dish runs from 13,000 won (beef gyudon) to 25,000 won (kaisendon); the most-ordered pork tenderloin cutlet set is 16,000 won and the salmon bowl 18,000 won. We read 25 posts dated March 26 to October 28, 2026. Seventeen are records of eating here, two are one-line entries in neighborhood lists, and we set aside six: posts about the same chain's Ikseon, Seongsu and Daejeon branches, and one about the café next door.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.
What sets it apart
- Expect to wait at mealtimes. Ten of the 17 visit posts mention a queue. The times people noted: 10 minutes just after 6 p.m. in late September, about 30 minutes for a party of three at Sunday lunch in March, and 30–40 minutes arriving at 12:45 on a Friday in August. One post noted that two-person tables free up quickly, which is why three took longer. Two posts that arrived right at opening (11 a.m., and 5 p.m. on a holiday) walked straight in but found the courtyard full of waiting people when they left. One post sat down without waiting on a Sunday evening.
- Naver reservations are available. Seven posts mention booking, and those who booked walked in without waiting. One family ran late after a play, had the booking cancelled, and ended up queuing 30–40 minutes on site.
- The waiting area is the courtyard. Five posts say there is somewhere to sit there — stone seats, the wooden veranda, chairs out front — and a March post found blankets laid out for people waiting. One post described it differently: no separate waiting space, everyone just stands in the courtyard.
- There are private rooms. Six posts mention them — rooms on either side of the gate, a separate annex by the entrance. One family with a child was seated in a private room and found it easy; one post warned that the rooms book up fast.
3 more
- Six posts came with friends and four with family, three of those with children. One came as a large group and one as a double date. The family posts say the kids did well with the hamburg steak, the pork cutlet and the prawn udon.
- Seven posts call the fried dishes crisp — the tenderloin and loin cutlets, the karaage. One notes the tenderloin was still pink and moist inside.
- Four posts mention a receipt-review offer: write a Naver review and get a free soft drink, lemon cider or cola.

Parking

There is no parking at the restaurant. Two posts say so, and one who drove in March says the alley is hard to get into and they circled before paying at a nearby lot. The advice to use the Korea National Open University lot or the Daehak-ro 8ga-gil public lot is copied from the listing in several posts.

Where it is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside
| Toilet inside | yes 0 · no 1 (of 17 posts read) |
|---|---|
| Separate restrooms | yes 0 · no 2 (of 17 posts read) |
No post says what floor the dining rooms are on or whether there are steps. People describe walking through the gate into a courtyard, but nothing about levels; the "1st floor" in the address is just copied.
No post says whether the gate or courtyard has a step, or whether a wheelchair or stroller can get in. Three posts came with children, but none mention a stroller. That means nobody wrote about it, not that there is no barrier.
Two posts mention the toilet, and both found it a drawback: one says it is outside the building with a single stall, so there can be a wait at busy times; the other calls it a cramped single-person room. Neither describes separate men's and women's toilets.
No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot
Of the 19 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.
We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know
- Posts split two to two on portions. One family of two adults and a child took leftovers home and another found it surprisingly filling; one group of three found four dishes a bit small, and another felt the portions ran slightly light.
- Only two posts describe getting there: about 300 m, a 4–5 minute walk from Hyehwa Station exit 3, and a village bus to the Hyehwa Station stop followed by a short walk. The "5 minutes from exit 3" line in other posts is copied from the listing.
- Opening hours copied into posts disagree. Eleven list 11:00–21:50 with last order at 21:00, and two say closing is 22:00. The afternoon break is 14:40–17:00 in nine posts, 15:00–17:00 in three, and 14:00–17:00 in one. On days off, one post says no closing day, one says every Wednesday and one says public holidays. Check before you go.
- Five posts give the phone number as 0507-1317-2384 and one as 02-741-2384. Every post that booked did it through Naver; none booked by phone.
- Prices come from the menu photographed in two posts from July and August 2026, and the prices quoted in March, May and September posts match. We don't know whether they have changed since. "Blue Ribbon six years running" and "the original Daehak-ro branch" are the restaurant's own claims, repeated by bloggers, and we did not count them.
