Myeongdong Donkaseu

명동돈가스 Myeongdong is the downtown Seoul district the shop sits in, and donkaseu is the Korean word for Japanese-style breaded pork cutlet (tonkatsu).

An old-school Japanese-style tonkatsu house in the middle of Myeongdong, on Myeongdong 3-gil. We read 2 posts, from May to October 2026, and both writers actually went. One of them, though, is a single line inside a hotel review, so only one post (May 2026) describes the menu, the seating and the prices. That writer and two others had two cordon bleus (19,000 won each), a hire katsu (18,000 won) and three draft beers (8,000 won each), and the bill came to 78,000 won. Both writers were going back to a place they had eaten at years before.

Location & hours

What sets it apart

  1. The shop has two floors. One post says the ground floor is seating around the kitchen, where you watch the cutlets being cooked, while the upper floor has four-person tables and separate men's and women's toilets. Arriving at 4:30 on a Saturday, the writer found the ground floor empty and was sent upstairs; when they came down around 5 it was full.
  2. One post found the crust very crisp and nutty, but on both the cordon bleu and the hire katsu it came away from the meat easily. The hire was described as cooked through and firm, with no gamey smell, rather than the juicy style that is in fashion now.
  3. One post noted that all the servers are elderly and that the food came about five minutes after ordering. The other post only said the taste and the friendliness were unchanged.

Getting inside

Second floor1 of 2 posts
In a basementyes 0 · no 1 (of 2 posts read)
Toilet inside1 of 2 posts
Separate restrooms1 of 2 posts

One post describes a ground floor and an upper floor; no post mentions a basement.

Nobody wrote about a step at the entrance or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller, and we don't know whether the upper floor is reached by stairs or a lift. That doesn't mean there is a problem, only that no one mentioned it.

The only toilet detail is one post saying the upper floor has separate men's and women's toilets; we know nothing about access from the ground floor or how big they are.

No one mentioned: Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • All prices come from one post in May 2026. The writer felt prices had gone up a lot since their last visit but gave no earlier figures. The item prices add up to 80,000 won while the stated bill was 78,000 won, and we cannot tell which is right.
  • Opening hours appear in only one post, copied from a listing: daily 11:00-21:00. The writer adds that Naver Map shows a 15:00-17:00 weekend break, yet there were plenty of diners at 4:30 on a Saturday, so they suggest phoning first. The number, 02-775-5300, is also copied in that one post, and nobody says whether you can book.
  • One post says it is close to exits 5 and 6 of Euljiro 1-ga Station. Nobody wrote about getting there by bus.
  • No post mentions waiting. One says the ground floor was full around 5 pm on a Saturday but not whether there was a line. That doesn't mean there is never a wait, only that nobody wrote about one.
  • One post went as a family of three and the other with one companion; we have nothing on going alone or with friends.
