Japanese

Kateiryo

카테이료 Katei-ryo joins the Japanese katei (home, household) and ryōri (cooking) — home cooking, which is what the house serves as set trays.

Compiled from 28 blog posts read in fullSources →

A Japanese home-cooking restaurant on the second floor of a building in an alley beside Mangwon Market, a 5–10 minute walk from Mangwon Station exit 2. At lunch (11:30–16:00) it serves four set trays, each with seven small sides, from 15,900 won (the house set) to 22,000 won (tuna chirashi); from 17:00 it switches to single-person dinner trays at 19,900–23,000 won plus snacks such as futomaki and sashimi, with sake and highballs. Each person gets their own tray, and five posts came alone. We read 30 posts dated 30 July 2025 to 18 October 2026; one was about another place (a Hokkaido trip) and was set aside. The other 29 all date from 15 September 2026 on, and 28 of them record an actual meal.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. There is outdoor seating by the entrance: 11 posts mention the terrace or an outdoor bar counter. One post actually ate out there; another stayed inside because it was hot at midday. Inside are four- and two-seat tables and a window-facing bar counter; seven posts mention the windows.
  2. Six posts mention a sofa waiting area at the top of the stairs. Only one post saw people actually waiting: on a 1 October lunchtime there was a single seat left, and a queue formed while they ate.
  3. Eight posts say you order on a tablet at each table. Many say staff or the owner explain each dish when it arrives — for example, to eat the fried silken tofu soaked in its sauce in one bite, or to save it for last. Six posts describe the staff as kind.
  4. Six posts say the seasoning is mild and none call it salty; one writer who usually finds Japanese food too salty said this was right. Thirteen posts call the chicken nanban or salmon katsu crisp, and five say it was not greasy.
1 more
  1. Six posts say the small dishes look modest but left them full. Several say the price is fair for what you get, and none simply call it expensive; even the one that found 15,900 won a little steep for a weekday lunch concluded it was worth it.

Parking

Posts saying you cannot2 of 28 posts

'No parking' appears in almost every post's copied info block. Two posts say it in their own words — one recommends the Mangwon 1-2 public car park by the market (300 won per 5 minutes), the other a parking app. No one actually drove there.

The restaurant is upstairs only. Twenty-two posts say they went up to the second floor, several of them by the stairs. Two posts say the ground floor is a different business (one calls it a bar, the other another restaurant). One post states there is no lift.

No one wrote about a step at the door or getting in with a wheelchair or pram. Several posts climbed stairs to the second floor and one says there is no lift, so it looks difficult, but no one confirmed it.

Two posts say the toilet is inside the restaurant; one adds that it is a single shared unisex room, kept clean.

No one mentioned: Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 29 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Three posts say they came by public transport: one by bus to the Nonghyup stop, a minute's walk away, two on foot from Mangwon Station. Everyone who describes the route says it is hidden in an alley and to use a map app.
  • Five posts went alone, four with friends and three as a couple. Only one went with family (a mother), and none with children.
  • Opening hours come almost entirely from copied info blocks. The most common entry, in 21 posts, is daily 11:30–22:00 with a 16:00–17:00 break, but two posts say 23:00, one 22:30, and one gives 21:30 with a break from 15:00 and last orders at 20:45. Six posts say the lunch menu runs until 17:00 at weekends.
  • Some prices went up. Posts up to 7 October list the lunch salmon katsu set at 19,900 won and posts from 17 October at 21,900 won; the dinner salmon katsu nanban tray moved from 22,000 won (1 October) to 23,000 won (17 October). The other sets kept the same price from September to October.
  • More than 20 posts give the same phone number, 0507-1356-2089. That you can book by phone or CatchTable comes from copied info blocks; no post actually booked. One post found a group booking already in place at opening on 8 October.
  • The same directions and description ('round the back of the main road onto the small footpath, second floor'; 'a small restaurant serving Japanese home cooking on one tray') recur in more than ten posts. They look like promotional posts working from the shop's brief, yet only two disclose sponsorship and one shows a receipt to prove the writer paid. The place opened only about a month ago, so every post falls in September–October.
