Bongnae Chuksan

봉래축산 Chuksan means 'livestock', the word old Korean butcher shops put on their signs, and the place plays on that look; Bongnae is a proper name the posts do not explain.

Compiled from 24 blog posts read in fullSources →

Bongnae Chuksan is a charcoal-grill barbecue house in a half-basement on Manlijae-ro 35-gil, on the west side of Seoul Station. Boneless marinated beef short rib costs 54,000 won for a 600 g plate, and you grill it yourself over charcoal at the table. Many posts add unmarinated rib meat (21,000 won for 160 g) or the house beef platter (84,000 won) and finish with young-radish cold noodles (7,000 won); most describe office dinners, family meals or gatherings of friends. We read 30 posts from June 2025 to October 2026, 25 of them written after a visit. A June 2025 post had the ribs at 49,000 won, and corkage, free in posts up to July 2026, was reported as charged in one September post.

Rows without a count: 4 of 14 posts.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. It is a walk from Seoul Station. Seven posts described getting there by public transport, putting it at about 7 to 8 minutes from exit 15. Because it is across the tracks, two posts describe taking the elevator and footbridge behind the station and then climbing a gentle slope or a sloping alley.
  2. The room is big. Eleven posts said so; one cites seating for up to 90, another sat seven without feeling cramped, and posts describe an exposed ceiling, steel tables with round stools and an extraction hood over every table. Three posts mentioned strong air-conditioning.
  3. The receipt-review event is generous. Seven posts mentioned it: one review earns a highball, two a cheese steamed egg, three a portion of pork skirt — and three posts said writing three reviews got them all three items, not just the last.
  4. Seven posts, all from July to October 2026, mentioned a buy-two-get-one deal on Kirin draft beer; one gave 8,000 won a glass, three for 18,000 won, and warned the promotion may change.

  1. Thirteen posts said the prices felt reasonable, and none called it expensive; one worked it out at about 9,000 won per 100 g. One of the thirteen disclosed a sponsored meal.
  2. Four posts came with children. Staff had child cutlery and seaweed ready after a phone call, set out a high chair in advance for a two-year-old, and gave the kids free drinks. Seven posts called the staff friendly.

Getting inside

You walk down to a half-basement. Five posts said so — one describes going down a flight of stairs to the door, another says you have to head downward because it sits half underground. Two posts added that a large sign on the building wall makes it easy to find.

No one said whether there is a step at the door or whether a wheelchair or stroller can get in — that means we don't know, not that there is no access. One post describes going down stairs to the entrance and another says the doorway is narrow; none mentions an elevator.

Three posts said the toilet is shared by men and women. Its location is described differently — out through a door beside the counter, directly attached to the restaurant, near the entrance — so we can't tell whether it is inside the premises. Several posts said it was clean.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 29 posts we gathered, 5 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Being large, it can be loud. Two posts said so — sound from group tables carries straight across, making conversation hard. A third found it quiet enough to talk but still noted some echo.
  • Posts split two to two on waiting. Two report a queue — one arrived at 6 pm on a Friday and saw people waiting within half an hour, another called the wait fierce — while two walked straight in, including on a Saturday evening. Four booked ahead and did not wait. One post noted waiting chairs outside and a posted notice limiting tables to two hours when people are waiting.
  • All opening hours we have were copied from listings. Nearly every post gives 11:00 to 22:00 on weekdays with a 14:00 to 17:00 break. Weekends split four to four between closing at 22:00 on both days and closing at 21:00 on Sunday. Last orders are mostly 21:00, with one post saying 21:30. A June 2025 post listed an 11:30 opening and 14:00 on weekends. Three posts said it has no closing day.
  • What a meal costs depends on the order: one couple's ribs, rib meat, cold noodles, tartare bibimbap and three beers add up to 110,000 won, while another pair had a half plate (27,500 won), cold noodles (7,000 won) and a highball. Half plates are disputed — a September 2026 post was told the first order must be a full plate or two portions of one dish, while two July–August posts ordered half plates.
  • Prices have gone up: a June 2025 post listed the 600 g marinated ribs at 49,000 won and the beef tartare at 18,000 won; posts from March 2026 on give 54,000 and 19,000 won.
  • Corkage may have changed. Three July 2026 posts brought their own bottles at no charge, one saying the first bottle of wine or whisky is free. A 14 September post said it is no longer free — 15,000 won per bottle of wine and 25,000 won for whisky. Later posts don't mention it, so we don't know which holds now.
  • Five posts gave the phone number as 0507-1406-3532. One copied a note that evening bookings after 6 pm, group bookings and buy-outs go by phone; another said groups of three or more can book on Naver. One post listed a different number and a Manlijae-ro 209 address, which we take to be another restaurant's details.
  • Some posts are promotional. Two disclosed a sponsored meal, and one of them (August 2026) shares near-identical sentences about the ribs' striking first look and melting texture with a May post labelled self-paid. Posts pushing the Kirin beer deal also cluster from July on.
