Japanese

Umimato

우미마토 Umi is Japanese for 'sea', which the blue sign and fish logo play on; no post explains the rest of the name with any authority.

A sushi omakase counter in the Centenia building on Gonghang-daero, between Magok and Balsan stations. You sit at the bar for the seven-course 'Umikase' (35,000 won) or a single sushi platter (VIP 14 pieces at 33,900 won; the 16-piece Zeitaku, new in October 2026, at 38,900 won), and boxed sets and seafood plates go out as takeaway. We read 31 posts dated 18 May to 16 October 2026 and counted 18 as meals eaten in the shop. We set aside eight takeaway posts eaten at home, three multi-restaurant lists, one diary entry where we cannot tell where the food was eaten, and one post that rewords another.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Every seat is at the counter: ten in-shop posts say so, and two put the room at about eleven seats. Nine describe watching the chefs work, including torching the mackerel, right in front of them. Four mention a basket under the chair for bags.
  2. At dinner each person must order one drink, alcoholic or not. Seven posts note this, three specifying it applies only at dinner. Many in-shop posts ordered the 5,900-won draught beer.
  3. Writing a review earns each diner one free item. Ten in-shop posts mention it; six took the raw-shrimp and monkfish-liver hand roll and two took karaage. One post lists the choices: that hand roll, egg and inari sushi, fried shrimp or karaage, a highball, sake or beer, or a soft drink or green tea.
  4. This is a book-ahead place: eight posts booked through CatchTable or Naver or advise doing so. One lists the seatings as 11:30, 12:45 and 14:00 for lunch and 17:30, 18:50 and 20:10 for dinner; a diner on a weekday 20:10 seating says the meal took an hour to an hour and twenty minutes.

  1. Posts agree the prices are low: thirteen in-shop posts call it good value and none calls it expensive. The 35,000-won course price is the same in every post from May to October 2026, and one diner who returned says nothing had gone up.
  2. It is walkable from the subway: three in-shop posts say so, and the info blocks put it four to seven minutes from Magok Station exit 3 and five to eight from Balsan Station exit 9.

Where it is

Map showing where Umimato is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

From the station

It is walkable from the subway: three in-shop posts say so, and the info blocks put it four to seven minutes from Magok Station exit 3 and five to eight from Balsan Station exit 9.

Getting inside

No in-shop post describes the floor from experience. Info blocks say ground floor, and one takeaway post says it is on the ground floor and easy to reach after parking.

No one mentions a step at the entrance or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller — we simply do not know. All we know is that every seat is at the bar.

No one says whether the toilet is inside the shop or in the building's shared area; one post's info block says it is gender-separated, but that is copied listing data.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 31 posts we gathered, 13 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

2026-10-072 posts in one day
2026-09-293 posts in one day

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Two things changed. A May 2026 post and an undated earlier visit describe the first course as vinegared squid; posts from September on describe whelk. And a 2 September post says a takeaway display case had gone and the room had become all counter seating — when that happened we do not know.
  • None of the 18 in-shop posts mentions waiting. One diner booked three days ahead because they had heard there is usually a queue, and one takeaway post is titled 'waiting is a must', but how long a walk-in waits we cannot say.
  • Thirteen in-shop posts give opening hours, all copied from listings. All say it opens at 11:30; twelve say it closes at 21:30, one at 21:00. Eight give the break as 15:00-17:30, two as 15:00-17:00. Eight say it is open every day, but one says it closes on Sundays. Two list posts drawing on a government register say Tuesdays off and 22:00 closing; we did not count those.
  • Many posts copy the phone number 0507-1367-5832, but no one says they booked by phone; those who mention booking used CatchTable or Naver.
  • Posts cluster in October 2026. Three takeaway posts use the same hashtags in the same order and all push the new seven-item seafood plate and the Naver pickup discount; none declares sponsorship, but they read like commissioned copy and we did not count them as visits. The five-star-hotel chef, the salt-curing and low-temperature ageing, and the same-day stock policy are the shop's own claims, and we do not rely on them.
