Ijo Sikdang

이조식당 Ijo is an old name for the Joseon dynasty (the Yi royal house), and sikdang simply means restaurant; none of the posts explain why the house chose the name.

Compiled from 20 blog posts read in fullSources →

A bean-sprout bibimbap and noodle shop in a Jungnim-dong alley west of Seoul Station, by the back gate of Yakhyeon Cathedral. Since around July 2025 the bibimbap, noodles and bean-sprout rice soup are all 7,000 won; earlier visits paid 6,000. A large portion is 1,000 won more. Side dishes and soup are self-serve. Every post that gives hours says it opens at 7 a.m., and several writers ate here before an early train from Seoul Station. We read 27 posts from November 2024 to September 2026; 20 of them describe an actual meal.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. 13 of the 20 visits say the portions are big. One writer says even men ask for less; another says it feels like a large size compared with other places. Four posts advise light eaters to ask for less up front. One post differs: the writer still felt a little hungry afterwards.
  2. 17 of the 20 visits call it cheap; none call it expensive. Visits up to April 2025 paid 6,000 won, posts from July 2025 on say 7,000 — one writer notes his wife paid 6,000 in April and it had since gone up. Older prices (3,000 before COVID, 5,000 until 2023) are hearsay or memory, and we did not count them.
  3. 13 posts say the owner is kind, and they say why: he tells you how many spoons of sauce to use, one couple had him come over and mix their bibimbap for them, and another writer was asked mid-meal why he wasn't helping himself to more side dishes. Payment is marked as upfront, but two posts say they were told paying afterwards was fine.
  4. 7 posts say they helped themselves to more side dishes and soup: young-radish kimchi, pickled radish and anchovy broth are self-serve, and one calls the kimchi and soup unlimited. Diners return their own bowls.
4 more
  1. 8 posts describe the seating: small four-person tables in the middle and solo counter seats along both walls — four tables in a November 2024 post, four or five in May 2025. No post says it is counter-only. Three posts call the room small.
  2. 4 posts say it is not salty: even with plenty of sauce it was neither salty nor harsh, and two writers found it bland enough to add more sauce.
  3. 4 posts say the food comes quickly: within five minutes in one, right away for a family with a child in another, and one writer sat down at 8 a.m. and was finished by 8:15.
  4. 3 posts say they walked from Seoul Station — five to seven minutes from Exit 15 in one, very close to Exit 2 in another. Several others describe walking down from the Seoullo 7017 skywalk.

Parking

1 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

Posts saying you cannot1 of 20 posts

Parking is unclear. One post says there is no lot and you will need a nearby public one, another says they found you can park in front of the shop, and a third only mentions a paid lot nearby. Three posts carry a pasted 'no parking' line, which we did not count.

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside

No post describes the floor from experience; only the address says ground floor.

We don't know whether there is a step at the door or whether a wheelchair or stroller can get in — not because there isn't one, but because nobody wrote about it. One family went with a seven-year-old but said nothing about the entrance.

No post mentions the toilet — whether it is inside or separated by gender.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 27 posts we gathered, 7 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Waiting is mixed. One post says there is a line at lunch but seats free up fast; two people who came at 8 a.m. or for an early lunch sat right down. One more only guesses there may be a lunch line. No post gives a wait in minutes.
  • Two posts went alone, two with family, and one each with a spouse, a friend and coworkers. Many say it is good for eating alone, but the posts don't settle on one kind of visit.
  • Ten posts give hours, all copied from info headers or search results. Nine agree on 7 a.m.–7 p.m. weekdays and 7 a.m.–3 p.m. weekends; one November 2024 post says 7 a.m.–7 p.m. daily. Four say public holidays follow weekend hours. We don't know the closing days — one post says 'open every day?!' with a question mark.
  • The number 02-365-5993 appears in one post and in two government 'good price' lists; three other posts say there is no listed phone. We don't know whether they take reservations; one post says the owner will wait for you if you call ahead.
  • We did not count 7 of the 27 posts: a government 'good price' list posted twice by the same blog, a Seoul Station lunch list, a generic three-restaurant roundup, a one-line teaser for another post, a list of places from a YouTube neighborhood tour, and a Sindang drinking roundup that names the shop in one line.
  • The vegetables on the bibimbap change with the season: chives or scallions in November 2024 and spring 2025, cucumber in July 2025 because it was summer, and julienned radish in April–May 2026. One post says the topping changes by season. One writer asked for no cucumber and got it.
