Sanmaru Dolgui

산마루돌구이 Sanmaru means a mountain ridge and dolgui means stone-grilling — the signature dish is live octopus cooked on a hot stone plate at the table.

Compiled from 26 blog posts read in fullSources →

A small-octopus specialist in the Jamwon-dong eating alley, a four-to-seven-minute walk from exit 4 of Sinsa Station. Of the 27 visit posts, 21 had the live-octopus stir-fry set: the still-moving octopus and abalone arrive raw in a pot, staff stir-fry it at your table, and you eat it over a big bowl of rice with bean-sprout soup and eight to eleven side dishes. It was 19,000 won per person through April 2026 and 21,000 won in two June 2026 posts. Four posts had the stone-grilled octopus (85,000 won medium, 105,000 large). We read 30 posts from 28 September 2025 to 19 September 2026; we removed one about a different restaurant and did not count two that only introduced the place.

The values differ, but the periods they were written in do not overlap. This looks like a change over time rather than a disagreement, and the top row is the most recently reported. We did not confirm it with the restaurant.

What sets it apart

  1. You do not cook. Twenty posts say staff or the owner came to the table to stir-fry or grill, from start to finish; some add that they were told when to start eating and had the abalone lifted out onto their rice first.
  2. The meal ends with sikhye. Twenty-three posts were given the rice punch free at the end, and five from June to August 2026 also got a thick soy-milk starter before the food. Two mention hot barley tea while waiting.
  3. There are a lot of private rooms: 18 posts mention them, and those who counted wrote six (one post) or seven (two). The hall has roughly ten to twelve four-person tables. One post notes you keep your shoes on in the rooms.
  4. Many came with their mothers: nine posts went with family, most of them a meal with mum. Two brought children; in one, staff watched the baby, and in the other the owner brought the child a bowl of short-rib soup.
2 more
  1. Eighteen posts describe a wall covered in celebrity autographs. Claims about TV features were hearsay and not counted.
  2. Go by subway. Twelve posts walked from Sinsa Station, giving four to ten minutes; one came from Nonhyeon in seven or eight. A November 2025 post says exit 4 was under construction and they used exit 5.

Parking

2 posts say you can park; 4 say you cannot. We leave the disagreement standing rather than picking a side.

Posts saying you can park2 of 26 posts
Posts saying you cannot4 of 26 posts

Parking is contested. Four posts say you cannot park at the door; two found room for two to four cars beside or in front and parked there; one only guessed one or two spaces. One driver used the Jamwon-dong public lot nearby. The 'no parking' line many posts carry is copied listing data and not counted.

Where it is

Map showing where Sanmaru Dolgui is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

From the station

Go by subway. Twelve posts walked from Sinsa Station, giving four to ten minutes; one came from Nonhyeon in seven or eight. A November 2025 post says exit 4 was under construction and they used exit 5.

Getting inside

Toilet insideyes 3 · no 3 (of 26 posts read)
Separate restrooms5 of 26 posts

Only one post mentions the floor, saying the restaurant is on the ground floor; no other post says.

We do not know whether the entrance has a step or works for a wheelchair or stroller — nobody wrote about it, which is not the same as there being none. One post says the rooms sit up a slight step, like a hanok veranda.

Where the toilets are is split three to three: three posts say inside, three say you go out a back door to the building's toilets. Five agree they are separate for men and women.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 28 posts we gathered, 2 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • This place has not moved. A post about a Sanmaru Dolgui in Yongsan said itself that it is a different restaurant from the Jamwon-dong one, so we removed it; its note about moving to Gangdong is about that other shop.
  • The stir-fry set went up: seven posts from November 2025 to April 2026 paid 19,000 won a head, two from June 2026 paid 21,000, so the change came around May. Short-rib soup is listed at 15,000 won in January 2026 and 19,000 in April. One post called the place not cheap.
  • Waiting is rarely mentioned. One post arrived right at noon on a weekday, found it full and waited briefly; another walked in at 2 pm on a weekday with no wait; a third pushed lunch later because it was full.
  • Speed is split: two posts found it slow — the octopus is prepared only after you order — and three found it quick.
  • Mostly mild: eight posts say it is not spicy, three found it spicy, and one said her mother found it not spicy at all while she found it slightly hot.
  • Opening hours are fairly consistent: open 11:30, close 21:30 on weekdays and 21:00 on Saturdays, break 15:00 to 17:00, and ten posts say closed Sundays. Last order is 20:30 in seven posts and 20:00 in two. One post says it opens at 11:00 and one copied a 22:00 close.
  • Ten posts give the phone number 02-540-0991. That you can book is only in copied listing data; no one wrote that they booked.
  • Some of this is promotion. Ten posts carry the same five hashtags; only two of them disclose being sponsored or hosted, and one more post elsewhere also discloses sponsorship. We counted them because each records what was ordered and paid, but it helps explain the uniformly warm tone. Four posts say they paid their own way.
