Hansin Chikin

한신치킨 Hanshin is the name of the apartment estate and arcade around the shop (the address reads Hanshin Sangga), so the name simply means 'Hanshin Chicken'.

Compiled from 21 blog posts read in fullSources →

Hanshin Chicken is a long-running pub on the ground floor of the Banwon arcade in Jamwon-dong, Seocho, near exit 8-2 of Express Bus Terminal station. Four signs hang over it — Hanshin Chicken, Banwon Kalguksu, Banwon Sikdang, Hansikdang — but they are one place, and most posts call it Hanshin Chicken Hof. The near-standard order is half-and-half chicken (22,000 won) with spicy sujebi served in a clay jar (11,000 won) and draft beer (6,000 won): of the 22 posts by people who went, 18 ordered the sujebi and 13 the half-and-half. You eat outside in front of the arcade or indoors under awnings and open windows. We read 30 posts dated 18 June to 23 October 2026; we set aside 4 that were about other shops or broadcast roundups, and did not count 4 that only introduced the place.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Evenings and weekends mean a wait. Ten posts said they waited or saw a line, and the times written down were 30, 30, 20 and 20 minutes. Two posts that arrived at 4 pm and 5 pm on a weekend walked straight in but found a long line on the way out. One post said that at 7 pm on a Tuesday the place was packed yet they did not have to wait. There is no app or sign-up sheet; you queue in person at the entrance.
  2. There is outdoor seating in front of the arcade. Seven posts sat outside or saw it. A post that arrived at 4 pm on a Saturday wrote that the parasols went up at 4:30; another said a second room with a terrace opens after 5 pm on weekends, and that by coming early they ended up in the cramped main room with no outdoor seats.
  3. Seven posts called the place big, with two separate rooms and plenty of seats. One post disagreed: the room they got was tight, and with four people two dishes filled the table and they were bumping into the next table.
  4. Popcorn comes free. Eleven posts mentioned it; you scoop as much as you like from a station by the counter, and posts described heaping bowls and dipping it in the chicken sauce.
5 more
  1. Ten posts said side dishes are self-serve refills: cabbage salad, kimchi, pickled radish and water. One post refilled the kimchi three times.
  2. Six posts said you order on a tablet or kiosk at the table; the menu is long enough that you scroll a good while.
  3. The chicken is repeatedly described as old pub-style rather than franchise-style, and eight posts said the batter was crisp.
  4. Four posts walked from Express Bus Terminal station; take exit 8-2 and keep going straight.
  5. Three posts said the food was slow; one waited about 20 minutes for the chicken, and another advised deciding before you sit and ordering at once.

Three posts that walked there confirmed it is on the ground floor of the Banwon arcade. It sits at the back, though: posts warned it can't be seen from the front and that they thought it was closed until they turned the corner.

No one wrote about a step at the entrance or getting in with a wheelchair or stroller. That means we don't know, not that there is a problem.

The toilets are outside the shop. Three posts said so: in the arcade's central corridor, inside the next building, in the arcade's shared toilets. One post noted separate men's and women's rooms.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 25 posts we gathered, 4 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

2026-10-062 posts in one day

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • It is a hectic place. Three posts called it loud, and three found cleanliness lacking: a cup with something in it that had to be replaced, a remark that hygiene was not great, and untidy outdoor tables.
  • Fifteen posts gave opening hours: fourteen said 11:00 to 23:50 daily, one said until 23:59. Most of these are copied info lines. Two said there is no afternoon break, and two noted the shop closed over the Chuseok holiday.
  • Prices agree across posts: half-and-half chicken 22,000 won (six posts), sujebi 11,000 won (six), draft beer 6,000 won (three). One post's menu list put the sujebi at 10,000 won, but every other post from the same months said 11,000. Two people's bills came to 38,000 and 39,000 won. One post called the prices reasonable; another found the drinks expensive.
  • Many posts copied the phone number, 02-596-5990, but we could not confirm you can book by phone. One post was told phone bookings stopped because of no-shows, and info lines say walk-in queue only. One regular wrote that she phones ahead from home to order takeout.
  • Two identical posts by the same author on two platforms (same ten hashtags) had no prices or eating record, only nutrition filler, so we did not count them. We also set aside hearsay: that the taste recently changed (relayed from a mother) and that the shop expanded.
