Hoisik

호이식 Hoi (虎彝) is the tiger-patterned vessel used in Korean ancestral rites and sik means a meal; one blogger passed this meaning on from the house.

Compiled from 25 blog posts read in fullSources →

Hoisik is a chicken house in an alley off Anguk Station exit 2, at Bukchon-ro 2-gil 10 in Jongno. The draw is dakgui kalguksu, chicken-broth noodles under a whole grilled chicken thigh (12,000 won, or 15,000 won with two dumplings); there is also a northern-style chicken soup with rice and a mung-bean pancake on top (13,000 won), cold chogye noodles (12,000 won), and hot pots for two — dak hanmari at 31,000 won and braised chicken at 37,000 won. Fourteen visitors added the minari seafood pancake (18,000 won). Writers describe a hanok-style room with exposed rafters and iron cauldrons in the kitchen. We read 32 posts from 24 May to 18 October 2026; 27 of them record an actual meal. Phone 02-764-4609.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Expect to queue. Of 23 posts that mention waiting, 20 waited. The times they give: 15 minutes (against a 50-minute estimate on CatchTable), 20, under 20, 40, 40, an hour, ticket number 81 at 12:10 on a Saturday and seated around 1:30, "almost two hours", and "three hours". Nearly all joined the remote queue on CatchTable and wandered Bukchon until called. Two walked straight in — after 8 pm on a weekday and around 7 pm.
  2. Three posts note waiting seats or a bench out front, though one points out the alley is busy and suggests walking around instead of standing there.
  3. Eleven posts say portions are large: the two-person dak hanmari was "far more than expected", one writer could not finish the noodles under the chicken, and one took leftover pancake home. A group of four filled up on a two-person hot-pot set plus squid.
  4. Seven posts noticed many foreign diners; one writer chatted with Japanese tourists in the queue who had found the place through its chicken noodles back home, and another saw menus in English, Japanese and Chinese by the door.

Parking

3 posts say you cannot park. None say you can.

There is no parking: three writers say so in their own words and the copied info boxes repeat it. One family parked at the Hyundai E&C garage opposite and paid 6,000 won for 48 minutes.

Where it is

Map showing where Hoisik is

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

Getting inside

Toilet inside2 of 25 posts
Separate restrooms2 of 25 posts

We do not know about floors or steps: the address says ground floor and four posts mention a glass front, but no one described the entrance level.

Step-free access is unknown. "Wheelchair and stroller accessible" appears only in copied listing text in two posts; nobody describes going in with a wheelchair or stroller, including the two families with children.

Two visitors found separate men's and women's toilets inside, to the left of the kitchen. Nobody mentioned an accessible toilet.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 29 posts we gathered, 4 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Heat depends on the dish, and writers disagree: five call something spicy, two say it is not. Three found the dakgaejang fiery and one found it mild and nutty; one called the squid sweet-hot and another said it is much milder than it looks; one found the mung-bean pancake too spicy for a child.
  • One couple booked ahead on CatchTable for a weekend opening and walked in. Another post relays that from 5:30 pm it is walk-in queue only. Nobody says whether phone reservations work.
  • Most posts give 11:00-22:00 (last order 21:30) and Saturday until 23:00 (last order 22:30), mostly copied from the listing. Three differ: one says Saturday also closes at 22:00, one says Friday and Saturday run to 23:00, one gives a 21:00 Saturday last order. Two say it is open every day of the year.
  • Prices did not move across the four months we read: dakgui kalguksu is 12,000 won in June and in October. One couple's bill for a noodle set, dakgaejang, pancake and makgeolli came to 54,000 won. Three writers call it reasonable; one sponsored visitor calls it a little pricey.
  • Many posts repeat the same search phrases in title and text ("Anguk lunch spot", "Gyeongbokgung kalguksu"). We counted them as visits because each records an actual order, but only one discloses sponsorship and most say nothing either way.
