Itaewon Sarangbang

이태원사랑방 A sarangbang is the guest room of a traditional Korean house, where visitors were received and entertained; here it names a retro indoor pocha that shares its entrance with the seafood sister bar Itaewon Saranghae.

Compiled from 10 blog posts read in fullSources →

A retro pocha-style Korean drinking spot two floors underground at Itaewon-ro 27ga-gil 50, in the alley off Itaewon Station exit 1. It shares a stairway with the seafood bar Itaewon Saranghae; Sarangbang is the door on the right, signed 'to land'. People come for chicken feet, braised pork backbone with bean sprouts and pork bossam with fresh kimchi, plus egg toast and rice balls, over soju. The backbone braise was 38,000 won and the small bossam 32,000 won. Hours changed in spring 2026; recent posts give Sun–Thu 17:00–03:00 and Fri–Sat 14:00–05:00. We read 25 posts from October 2025 to October 2026; 12 were about the owner's sister bars Saranghae and Sarangchae and were set aside, and 10 describe actually eating here.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Free starters arrive as soon as you sit down: seven of the ten visit posts mention them, usually soft tofu, seaweed stems and sea snails. One writer had them refilled three times, and three say steamed egg comes with any chicken-feet order.
  2. Five posts call the room large. Three mention floor seating, three mention sofa seats, and one saw a private room. The '120 seats' figure came from the house, so we don't rely on it.
  3. Four posts could see the kitchen from their table; one was seated where, standing up, you could peek into it.
  4. Four posts found the food spicy, mainly the chicken feet and the pork backbone braise. One writer asked for only slightly hotter than the base level and still found it fierce; another notes you can choose the heat.
2 more
  1. Three posts walked from Itaewon Station: two and three minutes from exit 1, and 'about ten minutes' in a third.
  2. Two writers got the egg toast free for posting a review; one notes the review reward is either the egg toast or chilled acorn-jelly soup.

We could not find this shop’s own listing on Naver Map, so the link searches for its Korean name around this spot instead.

From the station

Three posts walked from Itaewon Station: two and three minutes from exit 1, and 'about ten minutes' in a third.

Getting inside

In a basement2 of 10 posts
Toilet inside1 of 10 posts
Separate restrooms1 of 10 posts

It is underground; two posts describe going down from the shared entrance. One says the restrooms are up a few stairs off the dining room and separated by gender; another noticed a restroom smell, which the writer put down to the basement.

Posts mention going down to the second basement level, but nobody says whether that means stairs or a lift, whether there is a step at the door, or whether a wheelchair or stroller can get in. That isn't a no, it's that we don't know.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 13 posts we gathered, 3 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • No post describes waiting. One group of four booked for 7 p.m. on a Friday and found the room half full, two writers found it busy on a Sunday evening, and one was the first customer of the night. We don't know what weekend lines are like.
  • One group booked ahead, and another post recommends reserving on CatchTable for weekends. Four posts give the phone number as 0507-1338-7933; one gives a different number. Nobody wrote about booking by phone.
  • Two posts went with friends (one a group of four), one with a cousin and one with a partner. Nobody brought children, so we can't say how it suits kids.
  • Service is split one to one: a February 2026 post says staff kindly explained how to eat a dish, while an October 2026 post found the service unfriendly.
  • Ordering accounts differ. Posts from December 2025 and February 2026 ordered through a QR code at the table (one ordered drinks from staff), while an October 2026 post says the QR code only shows the menu and you order separately. One post isn't enough to say it changed.
  • Opening hours changed in spring 2026. Posts from October 2025 to March 2026 give 17:00–05:00 with last order at 04:00; posts from May 2026 give Sun–Thu 17:00–03:00 and Fri–Sat 14:00–05:00. A Monday closure copied into one January 2026 post conflicts with another from the same period saying open Monday to Sunday. We don't know the current day off.
  • Some prices have gone up: the egg toast was 11,000 won in December 2025 and January 2026 and 13,000 won on a June 2026 receipt. For a whole meal, four people spent 66,000 won on two mains before drinks (October 2025), and a second-round order of five items came to 51,500 won (June 2026). We don't know current prices for the rest of the menu.
  • One post discloses sponsorship. Two auto-generated posts that only repeat review counts and keywords, and one roundup post, aren't visit records and weren't counted. Claims that BTS's Jungkook visited or that the chef trained at a Michelin restaurant are hearsay; three writers did see the celebrity signatures on the wall.
