Itaewon Sarangchae

이태원사랑채 A sarangchae is the outer quarters of a traditional Korean house where guests were received; the same owner also runs Itaewon Sarangbang and Itaewon Saranghae nearby.

A Korean drinking spot down the alley by the Twosome Place café off Exit 1 of Itaewon Station, serving pancakes (jeon), makgeolli and hot pots such as beef-tripe and beef-tendon stew. 2026 posts list the three-pancake platter at 33,000 won, chilled acorn-jelly soup at 12,000 won and the tendon stew at 30,000 won. We read 31 posts from September 2025 to October 2026; 16 record an actual visit. We set aside 10 posts about a same-name branch that opened in Hapjeong in October 2026 and 4 about other bars, including the owner's Itaewon Sarangbang.

Rows without a count: 7 of 8 posts.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. There is street seating out front. Six posts mention it, and four say it is only two tables. Two posts sat outside; one said a small air conditioner kept the outdoor seats cool.
  2. Seven posts mention free side dishes. Six from 2026 name salted squid and scallion kimchi; the one visit from June 2025 got a braised radish it called really spicy.
  3. Three posts say you get barley tea instead of plain water, served in an old-style juice bottle.
  4. Six posts call the portions large: one says the tripe hot pot came filled to overflowing, another that a seafood pancake was plenty for two. One post saw it differently, saying the hot-pot bowl was so small it looked like a single soup.
2 more
  1. Seven posts mention a wall covered in celebrity autographs; three spotted BTS member Jungkook's.
  2. Eight posts say it is close to the station, most putting it one to three minutes' walk from Itaewon Station Exit 1; one said under ten minutes.

Separate restrooms6 of 15 posts

No post describes the floor level or any stairs at the entrance; only the address says ground floor.

No one wrote about a step at the door or wheelchair or stroller access. We don't know either way. Note that the restrooms are in the annex next door.

Six posts say the restrooms are separated by gender. Two add that they are not in the bar itself but in the annex next door: step out and turn left, about ten seconds away.

No one mentioned: Second floor · In a basement · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Accessible toilet. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

Posts that followed a TV spot

Of the 16 posts we gathered, 1 went up on a single day right after a TV spot and show no sign of a visit. They retell the broadcast, so we left them out of the counts.

We do not discard them. That a TV spot produced a burst of posts is itself something worth knowing about a place, and a star rating will not show it.

What we do not know

  • Accounts of ordering differ: three posts say the QR code only shows the menu and you order out loud from staff, while one says you order by QR.
  • Posts split on price: three found it expensive (soju at 6,500 won; pricey for a pancake house), two found it cheap (a 5,000-won lunchbox; good value). Some prices have risen: the June 2025 menu had the acorn-jelly soup and chungmu gimbap at 11,000 won each; October 2026 posts put the soup at 12,000 and the gimbap at 13,000.
  • All opening hours were copied from listings. Five 2026 posts agree on 4 p.m. to 3 a.m. Monday to Thursday and 2 p.m. to 3 a.m. Friday to Sunday; one gives 5 a.m. closing on Friday and Saturday, another 4 p.m. to 3 a.m. daily. A September 2025 post had 5 p.m. to 4 a.m. (Saturday 2 p.m. to 6 a.m.), so the hours have changed since. One post says there is no regular day off.
  • The single visit from June 2025 reported an hour's wait for one dish, staff who ignored three requests to turn the music down, and a cramped room. Among 2026 visits, two said food came quickly, two found staff friendly and two found the place roomy. We can't tell whether the bar changed or that was one bad night.
  • No post describes waiting. Two got seated right away (a Saturday evening, and at opening time), while others found it nearly full at 9 p.m. on a weeknight and early in the evening. That means no one wrote about a wait, not that there never is one.
  • Several posts copy the phone number 0507-1340-7904, but none actually made a reservation or group booking; those claims come from the bar's own listing.
  • A same-name branch opened in Hapjeong (Yanghwa-ro 6-gil 73, Mapo-gu) in October 2026. Ten posts about it share the same info block, the same four dishes and the same hashtags, and six say they were paid. It is a different location, so none of them are counted here.
