Soup and riceKorean

Sinuiju Chapssal Sundae

신의주찹쌀순대 Sinuiju is a city in North Korea's far northwest, and chapssal sundae is blood sausage bound with glutinous rice — the name points to a Sinuiju-style sticky-rice sundae.

A sundae-soup house on Yangjae-daero 27-gil in Irwon-dong, Gangnam, about a ten-minute walk from Samsung Medical Center. The core is blood-sausage soup served boiling in an earthenware pot, alongside plates of boiled pork, mixed sausage and glutinous-rice sausage, and a drinking stew. The soup was 10,000 won in posts up to 1 October 2026 and 11,000 won in the post of 16 October. We read four posts, from 10 August to 16 October 2026, and all four describe actually eating there; two of them came straight from appointments at the hospital.

Counted from what bloggers wrote in their posts; we did not confirm it with the restaurant. Where the values differ, it may be a change over time rather than a disagreement, so we show when each one was written.

What sets it apart

  1. Three posts said the soup is generously filled. One counted four pieces of sausage plus plenty of head meat; another said it was enough to carry a full bowl of rice. The broth comes red with chili paste already in, but one post found it not very spicy and asked for extra paste and green chili on the side.
  2. The side dishes are cubed radish kimchi, shredded radish and chives, and two posts said they get refilled — one went back for more radish salad, another noted staff watching the room and topping up whatever ran low. Two posts also mentioned barley tea instead of plain water and a self-serve after-meal drink (coffee, iced tea or juice). One post found the kimchi a little sweet.
  3. Three posts described the seating: two- to four-person tables, solo tables, a group table, and a counter along the window that gets sunlight. One post called the room fairly spacious, bright and well kept. Two posts said the restaurant is on the ground floor.

Parking

1 posts say you can park. None say you cannot.

Posts saying you can park1 of 4 posts

Only one post described parking from experience: room for two or three cars in front and a mechanical public car park directly opposite — though that couple left their car at the hospital and walked. Another post's 'parking available' was copied from a listing.

Getting inside

In a basementyes 0 · no 2 (of 4 posts read)

We don't know whether there is a step at the entrance or whether a wheelchair or stroller can get in. Two posts say it is on the ground floor, but none mentions a threshold or stairs — that means no one wrote about it, not that there is none.

We don't know whether the toilet is inside the restaurant or separated by gender; none of the four posts mentions it.

No one mentioned: Second floor · Lift to the floor · Ramp at the door · Step at the entrance · Step-free access · Toilet inside · Accessible toilet · Separate restrooms. That is not the same as there being none — it means we could not confirm it. Worth calling ahead, and do tell us: we will put it here.

What we do not know

  • Prices went up. Posts of 10 August, 14 August and 1 October 2026 list the soup at 10,000 won and the set at 14,000; the 16 October post shows 11,000 and 15,000, with the pork and sausage plates each 1,000 won higher. The two August posts that called it good value for Gangnam were talking about the old prices.
  • Waiting is one post against one. The 16 October 2026 post said it was busy enough to have a queue; the 10 August post walked in without waiting around 1 p.m. on a weekday. No one wrote how many minutes they waited.
  • Only one post mentions public transport, saying the subway is convenient from Daecheong Station — but that writer also walked from the hospital. The '524 m from Daecheong Station exit 4' figure is copied listing data in two posts. Nobody wrote about taking a bus.
  • No post says the writer ate alone. Two came as a married couple, and the remarks about solo dining were guesses. No one came with children either.
  • Opening hours: all four posts give 07:00–22:00 daily and two give last order at 21:10, but every one of these was copied from a listing. No post mentions a closing day. The 16 October 2026 post noted a temporary sign saying the restaurant would open only in the afternoon because of interior work.
  • Three posts give the phone number as 0507-1337-0786. Nobody wrote about whether reservations are taken.
